KTUL, Tulsa's ABC affiliate, has laid off up to seven employees and those who are left took pay cuts, sources report.

While no on-air talent was reportedly fired, those sources said the layoffs hit the promotions, engineering, news and sales departments of the station, which is owned by Allbritton Communications Co.

Recently, the Arlington, Va.-based corporation, which owns nine ABC-affiliated TV stations and NewsChannel 8, a cable news channel, reportedly laid off staff at WJLA and cable news channel NewsChannel 8 in Washington, D.C.; at WBMA in Birmingham, Ala.; and at KATV in Little Rock.

Washingtoncitypaper.com reported on its blogs that WJLA lost 26 staffers, including five on-air staff, and that remaining employees took a 3.9 percent pay cut with no company match for their 401(k) retirement plans. Sources report that WBMA eliminated 15 positions, including two photographers, one reporter and a weather anchor, and announced the same pay cut and 401(k) status for those retained by the company.

At KATV, ArkansasBusiness.com sources estimated that about 20 staffers were fired, including on-air talent. The same pay cut and 401(k) policy also was reportedly implemented at KATV and KTUL.

All cuts were said to be part of a company-wide effort to reduce costs until the economy recovers, according to localtvnews.wordpress.com.
