The governer of Louisiana, Bobby Jindal is making lots of headlines with his refusing the $98 million in stimulus funds.  NO one seems to be looking at the almost $7 BILLION that he is NOT refusing.  It appears we have some smoke and mirrors happening here.  If he is going to turn down any of the stimulus then it needs to be the entire amount.  Otherwise he is merely grandstanding and hoping that no one notices his conservative Republican ways.  Make a lot of noise up front so no one can see what I am doing behind the screen of the Emerald City.  Poof.

Several governors are refusing to accept some of the stimulus money. Haley Barber said he will refuse the money that is targeted to be used for extended unemployment benefits on grounds that the strings attached would conflict with Mississippi law governing eligibility. He added that he will accept the infrastructure funding because he believes there will be a short term stimulus. I am not sure if this is what Jindal is doing.
Someone get Hoss a pacifier.

It's the same sort of issue with Jindal -- unemployment insurance. Jindal says the state would be on the hook with more expensive jobless insurance rules; the fed says it won't.

Basically a difference of opinion, with the opportunity to make some political hay thrown in.

It's not only republican governors that are thinking about rejecting part of the stimulus. Tenn.'s dem governor also considering it:
