Anyone on-board that has taken the Heartland Flyer to Fort Worth?  Or even been near the station in Fort Worth?

What is around that station?  Is anything there that's makes the trip worth something?  Has anyone taken Trinity Express line to Dallas?  Hotels? Any reason at all to be there?

sgrizzle

I know Councilor Gomez, an avid bike rider, was going to a bicycle event in Texas so he decided to try the Heartland Flyer. He drove to OKC only to be told he couldn't bring his bike on the train.

Multimodal Failroad.

I'd like to know more about this. It sounds like a good way to go.

Until I have a reason to go to Fort Worth, I don't have a reason to go to Fort Worth.

Not sure they are a reason to go but I enjoy the entertainment districts.

I guess what I'm getting at, I'd like to take a purely frivolous trip.  Nothing terribly special, with a few exceptions:  I'd like to take a train getting there, not a terribly long trip (maybe 4 days combined), and I'd like to be somewhere worth going.

Combining all of that, I'm pretty much left with Fort Worth or Chicago.

I've been to Chicago a few times.  It's great, love that city.  Been all over really, except downtown Fort Worth.

I might have to expand the time, call it an epic 24+ hour train trip, and go somewhere new.

I've not been in a few years but Sundance was a cool place and had alot to do.

I was there from mid-day into the evening and wasn't able to get all around the several block area.  I have a tendency to sit at the bar for a couple each stop I make though so that slows me down.

I'm gonna have to rethink this.

Since I seem to have a train-bug right now, a college-style marathon trip might be in order.  Just riding the rails for a few days.  Add a couple days and NYC and/or DC is possible.

Amtrak wouldn't be a bad way to see the upper east coast.  I've ridden the Metro-liner from DC to NYC and back around '79 or '80.

Another option is to pick up in Denver or Omaha and you can ride out west to the bay area through some really spectacular scenery in the Rockies and Sierras.  We took the train from Omaha to Reno many years back, and looks like that route is still running.

I think those are my only two Amtrak experiences.  I've done the EuroRail thing as well before.

Fort Worth offers great museums, a super planetarium and of course the world famous Billy Bob's Texas on main street in "Cowtown"- Fort Worth also has a super jogging/bike trail along the Trinity River over 30+ miles long so pack your running shoes. Fort Worth has a darn good City Zoo, Restaurants/Nitelife and a great road system it's easy to find your way around the city. I lived in Texas back in the 1980's and they have it all. Fort Worth is a great place to call Home to those of you looking to re-locate. [:)]

I'd like to see high speed rail service between Tulsa & Omaha.
