I'm happy for Miss. California, she stuck to her guns and the majority of Americans feel the same as her and are against gay marriage. I am also strongly against gay marriage I see it as perverted, against nature, and it opens the door to anything & everything goes. Marriage should be defined thru a federal amendment of a union between a man & woman ONLY! Gay marriage has never passed any state thru a vote of the people, it was always voted down by the people, only the courts made gay marriage possible with liberal judges. We love ya Miss. California! :D

I don't understand why everybody stops here (she had guns before the operation, now she has cannons btw).  What about all those that get divorced.  Surely they should not be able to re-Marry.  What part of breaking an agreement you took in front of God do people not understand?

Yes, but he said "according to Perez".  Should anyone say "according to Perez" when making an argument?
My first thought was "Pervez Musharraf"...but I couldn't figure out how all this tied in with Pakistan...

I'm happy for Miss. California, she stuck to her guns and the majority of Americans feel the same as her and are against [mixed race] marriage. I am also strongly against [mixed race]  marriage I see it as perverted, against nature, and it opens the door to anything & everything goes. Marriage should be defined thru a federal amendment of a union between [people of the same race] ONLY! [Mixed race] marriage has never passed any state thru a vote of the people, it was always voted down by the people, only the courts made [mixed race] marriage possible with liberal judges. We love ya Miss. California! :D

Funny how that statement reads when you take out "gay" and change out "mixed race" and pretend it was written in 1955.  Wish we had more "conservative" Judges who returned slaves to their masters in the 1850's and upheld FBI investigations of "communists" in the 1950's.

The argument that change is being effectuated by the judiciary is irrelevant unless you concede that the Civil Rights movement was a bad thing or attack the logic being used to do so.   My guess is you have yet to read the Iowa decision and certainly haven't presented a logical argument.  Your entire argument is "I don't like gay marriage so we should ban it!"  Which is not compelling.

Marriage is not natural.  Marriage is a man made institution that predates Christianity and predates the Jewish laws.  The anatomy of man suggests we were in relatively monogamous relationships long before the advent of marriage contracts or religious marriages, let alone government licensed marriage.   Hence, monogamy is natural to man (presumably mostly hetero sexual since we survived as a species), but we created marriage.

The counter argument can spin a couple different directions:

1) Man was created in Gods image and God gave him woman.   This argument would discount evolutionary science (as well as biology, anthropology, geology, etc.) and argue the "Young Earth" side of things.  Pointing to the Bible as the primary evidence for the contentions.

or

2) Marriage is an institution created by God.  Judeo-Christian doctrine has always mandated a union between a man and a woman.

The problem with both is that they are directly a religious argument.  God did this, God wants that.  Which are not logical arguments for the passage of laws.  But no logical arguments exist against Gay Marriage, so we are left with the residual, underlying reason:  because some peoples belief in God dictates it as a rule.

I do not believe the issue is related to religious rights.  We are talking about the ability for persons to civilly  contract with each other and the government to recognize such a contract.  An inherently non-religious ordeal.
- - -

To quickly address the notion of it leading to "anything goes" marriages:

Like what?   Animals don't have contracting rights, you can't marry an animal or sign a contract of any kind with them.  If you are afraid it will create multilateral marriage contracts - so what?  How would that effect you negatively?  And if it was good enough for people IN your Bible why isn't it good enough today?  The argument is utterly without merit.

And I really don't care what Ms. California's stance on the issue is or how many times she has had naked pictures taken.  The issue is interesting, but not because of anything some beauty queen did or said.  She should be free to express any view she wants without punishment from the organization, especially when directly asked by said organization (to be fair the pictures were the pretense for punishment).

But really, this was about publicity for The Donald, nothing more.

That is exactly what it would read if we had web forums 50 years ago.

I think God can decide who can and can't get married.  The state should stay out of it and only do civil unions.  I am sure the fine print says that God always has the right to not recognize your Marriage.

PREJEAN TO RUN AS GOP VP IN 2012

"Carrie has all the same qualifications for high office that Sarah Palin did before she began her amazing run."

Satire by R J Shulman
LOS ANGELES -- (PTSD News) -- The GOP announced today that beauty queen and new rising star Carrie Prejean will be a shoe-in -- that is, a high-heeled shoe-in --for the vice presidential slot in the next national election.

Fresh off her victory in holding on to her title of Miss California after she had lied about posing for semi-nude photos, Prejean said, "This is a victory for free speech as I should be able to express my opinions without having to hear the opinions of people who disagree with me. You know, I am in favor of opposite marriage, but not opposite opinions to mine."

"Carrie has all the same qualifications for high office that Sarah Palin did before she began her amazing run," said GOP spokesperson Stix Larsen, "and by 2012, Sarah will have worn out her welcome and probably her looks, so it is important to find a fresh new face to run with maverick McCain (R-Ariz.) as we present the new Republican party. Ms. Prejean believes in the core conservative family values of gay bashing, liberal trashing, lying and breast augmentation."

Observers had fully expected Miss USA boss Donald Trump would strip Prejean of her crown for breaching her contract when she failed disclose those questionable pictures she took before the pageant began. However, Trump set aside the contract breach. "I just couldn't sack the girl," said Trump, co-owner of the Miss USA pageant. "I guess I'm not the type who can just come out and say, 'you're fired.' "

I did predict this one,  Ms Carrie is going to work for Fox News - http://www.usnews.com/blogs/washington-whispers/2009/05/14/miss-california-on-cable-news-fox--friends-gives-carrie-prejean-her-chance.html

QuoteMiss California and Miss USA runner-up, Carrie Prejean, tossed around in the battle over gay marriage, will be a one-day guest host for Fox News Channel's popular morning show Fox & Friends, Whispers learns. She will host the 6 a.m.-to-7 a.m. slot on May 27, filling in for Gretchen Carlson—the 1989 Miss America—who will be off that day.

The decision to make her a one-day cohost was finalized yesterday—the same day Prejean and Miss USA owner Donald Trump appeared on Fox & Friends.

Suzanne Scott, Fox vice president for programming, filled me in on the details of the gig for Prejean, who was thrust into the headlines when she rejected gay marriage during the Q&A part of the pageant. "We're just using her one time," she said, "to sit with the boys and have some fun." The boys are cohosts Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade. "She has become a national celebrity in the last few weeks, and it's a fun thing to do," said Scott. "It's a good way to try get a little buzz and fun for the show. We'll see what happens with it," she added.

Not have gone on about how people are "free to choose gay marriage or opposite marriage," when that isn't in fact the case.

Well we can hope the next time you are answering a politically-charged question in front of a large audience and millions of people you can do better.

Wow, when it's a big-breasted conservative who has a gaffe, you're all for the forgiveness.  Democratic Party members such as VP Biden and Pres Obama, not so much.

Bias FAIL...

That Perez guy just didnt help himself or his cause with that disghusting language and behavior. Quite the contrary.  And, though I may disagree with some of what she said, I very much respect Miss Cali's responses and opinions.

What's even more alarming is that some people actually like Perez Hilton.

Yes, it's so wrong to expect more from the Pres than from a beauty pageant contestant

I hear she is going to do some community organizing, because that REALLY qualifies someone to lead the country.

Actually, it kinda does.

His slapdown of another blowhard attention whore (not Perez Hilton)... Alan Keyes, in the Illinois US Senate debate... a thing of beauty...

DON'T SEE ANY TELEPROMPTER THERE.... DO YOU?  Alan Keyes... d'oh.

Barack Obama gave an answer in an arguably much more important public forum than the Miss USA Pageant (not to be confused with Miss America)..... compare Obama's answers in this format to the short and sweet "opposite marriage" answer given by Miss California to the flamer Perez Hilton....

Wrong.  If you put yourself out in public as an attention whore making their moral and political stances known to media (pay attention here Gweed, you might be able to take some pointers) then you can expect to be treated like an attention whore.

If you don't want public ridicule, don't put your opinions or yourself in the public media.  Period.

I know the story is two days old, but I saw this interview with Miss Cali on Cavuto's show. Beauty with brains (although I am not against gay marriage). No bailouts/no welfare +1

Yup she's pretty cool for being against gay marriage ::) but loves to pose nude (or near nude) in pics.  What a great role model for kids  :D! LOL

No wonder she's no longer Miss California they kicked her hypocritical but out of that title.
