Neighborhood Crime Question

let's see if I can throw my personal takes on these area's.  The area around 5th and 7100 block is a quiet neighborhood.  Never see much problems out of there, however the surrounding area's (particularly north of admiral) are pretty dicey.  These are where the elements come from that cause problems at the wal-mart (once found a woman laying on the floor in the candy isle talking to someone that wasn't there at about 3am).  The W. 41st I can't really say much about, though there doesn't seem to be a crime problem (I just don't like the air quality there). 2747 S 116th is down the street from me.  For a while things were pretty bad, but haven't had a single stereo stolen in about two or three years.  Before that it would be two or three a year.  I think I just scared em off when I chased em down the street in nothing but shorts at 2am.  BA is generally a pretty low crime area, but there are some places there that are the exception.  Unfortunatly I don't know enough to give an informed answer there.

Memorial between admiral and 11th does not appear to be safe.  I had to go there to that walmart at 11pm on Friday because all the other stores were closed.  It was terrible, 2% chance of getting shot by a klansmen or getting shanked by a gang member.  Both of those groups seem to hang out in the areas surrounding that place long into the night. Just don't eyeball anyone on accident or show fear when walking by.  There are any number of parked cars with groups of people inside them sitting in the dark playing their own brand of music very loudly.

What on earth are you going on about? Are you scared of poor people or something? I've been there at normal hours and odd hours (I hate going to wal-mart, no matter where it's located, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do) and I've never felt unsafe.

Yep, same here since I live right down the street from it.  Never ever been afraid of that place.  I've been there from 9am to 4am and have never felt or been threatened.  Had someone preach to me about having Jesus Christ save me, but hey, we do live in Oklahoma, right?

On the other hand, I tried that WalMart I mentioned earlier (68th/Memorial) on a Friday night about 11 pm.  I felt like I was walking an indoor version of the French Quarter the night after Mardi Gras.  I expected to see someone passed out in the pharmacy with a syringe stuck in their arm that was wrapped by a tourniquet.  I couldn't believe how dirty that place was for only being open a few months.

By the same token, my favorite WalMart in the area (in regards to cleanliness) is the one in Sand Springs.  Easy to park at and easy to shop in.

Any Walmart is going to be like that, doesn't matter where you go.  I live in that square mile from Adm to 11th, Memorial to Mingo and have not had one single problem.  The neighborhood there is mostly older people who own their homes.  It's quiet and I've never felt threatened since I moved there 4 years ago.  I think your assessment is based on a WalMart.  How about the Walmart at 71st and Memorial?  I went there one time; swore I'd never go back.  It made the Adm/Memorial Walmart look like an elementary school.

That is an accurate assessment of the area.

However, my Grandpa did have an attempted overnight burglary happen at his home there a couple years ago. Someone tried to pick his garage door open with a screwdriver. Created some damage to the door frame, but the lock held.

Mostly elderly neighbors that keep an eye on one another, and lots of barking dogs, which make great alarm systems!

I used to live at 7th and Yale...  It was nice at the time.   In four years, we only got broken into once.


Of course, that was before they decided to relocate the downtown homeless shelter to Admiral and Yale.
