I have no idea where you're getting this, but it seems entirely plausible. The whole thing was so rushed, so slipshod and so incoherent she had to be getting out in front of something that's about to drop.  Otherwise, why rush out the door in the middle of your term? And so long before she needs to get started for 2012.

Then why did she not resign and walk away yesterday? CNN thinks she is pregnant or something:

Someone get Hoss a pacifier.

My favorite of that weird press conference was this:

"It may be tempting and more comfortable to just keep your head down, plod along, and appease those who demand: 'Sit down and shut up', but that's the worthless, easy path; that's a quitter's way out."

So she avoids being a quitter by ... quitting.  :D

And any of those fools who think she's still a viable presidential candidate after this are high. Nobody ups and inexplicably quits in the middle of his or her term and maintains any sort of national credibility. Even if she runs, her GOP opponents are going to rip her to shreds. "How do we know she won't quit in the middle of the presidency if things get tough?" "Her actions call her mental toughness in question." "We need someone in the presidency who's shown a track record of sticking with it when times get tough."

I really don't see her as being relevant for anything other than an RNC fund-raiser.  I want whatever she's smoking or drinking if she thinks she's got a shot at the POTUS nomination in '12.  I like her, but this episode set my flake-o-meter spinning.

I am pretty pissed off.  I downloaded the Sarah Palin I-Phone app... Everytime somebody says something bad about it online, it just quits....

I agree (although I don't like her.)  Lots of people, even the GOP mouthpieces, are saying the same thing.

Three scenarios:

1) Big scandal coming in a couple months or so.  Enough time to let her slip away a little bit before it comes down.  Her hope being she is a nobody by then and no one cares.  Her political future over anyway, she may as well save face.

2) She has a lucrative job lined up outside of government or otherwise sees dollar $igns.  Knowing she had no real shot of being elected, she's taking the cash while it is there.

3) She's crazy / she thinks this is a good political move.

If she is going to run in 2012 I would think it would be great of her to announce her candidacy and then resign as Gov.  The issue here is that all she did was say that you will hear things about me in the news, etc, etc.  If she announced then resigned it would look so much better.  In fact, even if she wasn't going to run for office in 2012 REALLY.  It would look way better than just quitting like this.

Always go with the money CF.

I think there are only 3 legitimate reasons for a public official to resign his office before the end of their term.

1.  The guy's a crook, and receives or faces felony conviction or impeachment.
2.  Severe health crisis that prevents the person from properly carrying out his duties.
3.  Appointment to a higher office.  To resign just to run for a higher office may be OK in some circumstances if the campaign season is imminent, but that can be stretching it.

To resign for any other reason (or no solid reason as Palin did) is a violation of public trust, shows the person to be a welsher, and severely lacking in character.  People who resign public office early for no valid reason should be barred from running for any public office for 10 years.  All my opinion, of course.
