I doubt there is much land anywhere inside the city you could get for $2500 an acre. Next to the airport that has to be a complete steal.

Good buy.

Next to the airport?

Everybody thought Maytag was nuts for putting a repair store out in the middle of nowhere....between Garnett and Mingo on 71st Street.

Trustees accepted the second, $280,000 FAA grant and approved a $170,000 purchase agreement with the Milton O. Carlin Trust. The agreement covers the acquisition of 70.78 acres on the south side of 46th Street North between Mingo Road and Garnett Road at the northeast corner of Tulsa International.

I think the real question is what grudge do YOU have against the airport? It's your thread.

How?  That Maytag store was out in the middle of nowhere 25 years ago.  Did anyone see that are developing as it has?

Can you see into the future for this same area?

It's almost 2 miles from the main runway and almost a mile from A/A . Granted yes it is next to (empty) airport land.

Grudge? Just looking for answers and getting people being defensive. If you don't have anything go away and just ignore this thread.

You're right, buying a wooded flood plain lot vs. building an actual store is the exact same thing.... my apologies.

Yes I have invisioned the future a few years ago for that area. Build some office buildings and hotels at 169 & 46th street north and also a direct road off 46th into the airport towards the terminal. Cut off Owasso at the same time. HWY 169 is going to be widened in a few years and this area would make a good business park. The airport has the problem of making anything happen on it's land. Mayor Taylors first TAIT meeting included the hiring of a company that did the business park at Tinker to develope the land across Mingo from A/A. Squabbles led to them going away and nothing has happened since.

The OIG investigation did not clear out the problems with some airport employee's. As long as Jeff Hough and other connections are able to continue , nothing will change. Especially with a puppet TAIT Board.

How's that defensive?  I think you're being more defensive by telling him 'If you don't have anything go away and just ignore it this thread'.

Not that I care whether you have a grudge one way or another, it's just a little befuddling how a TIA trust meeting not being on TGOV immediately is a huge concern to anyone.

And guess what.  At one point that little Maytag store was on a wooded lot.  Doesn't matter whether or not it was flood plain.

Not so apples and oranges now, huh?

MDepr2007 last week..."It's waste land in a flood plain and on the map is listed as unsound. $170,000 is a lot of FAA grant money (taxes) to pay for 70 acres of land that was worthless to the owner and now worthless to Tulsa."

MDepr2007 today..."Yes I have invisioned the future a few years ago for that area. The real estate market sure changes quickly...

There is 3 other intersection corners , not all have part of Mingo Creek running through it... nice try though ;)

Now if I can find the BOA ruling about an area out there a few years ago...

My point was that it WAS a wooded lot WAY before the Maytag was there.  Something had to start it, huh?

Well the idea of a nice business park with hotels is nice.  If you are going to cut off Owasso though, you will have to include retail.  It is guaranteed that many employees at the business park will live in Owasso, therefore shop in Owasso.  That would make Owasso more prosperous.  The hotels would have the potential to take revenue from Owasso.

Friendly Bear

Along the same strategy as missing or late TAIT Board broadcasts on TGOV, I am suspect as to why the AUDIO of the meetings is suddenly terrible.

I have to crank the audio ++++++ to the max to be able to hear anything.

But, this is just during TAIT meetings.
