No,they didnt take Newt Gingrich out of context. Last month he wrote an op-ed saying more living wills would  save medicare 30  billion.

Now he'scalling them Obama Death Panels.  This will be  the death knell for opposition to health care.

The Daily Show: If Only The Glenn Beck Of Sixteen Months Ago Had The Health Care The Glenn Beck Of Today Raves About

"I'll tell you what really doesn't speak well of our health care system: that in those sixteen months the hole that they stitched up in Glenn Beck's a*s hasn't healed enough for him to stop talking out of it."
Trust but verify

This too....Twitter Grassley got caught up in listening to Sarah Palin and her Sheppard's dictates.

Pulling the plug on the Republicans
http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-6572-NY-Obama-Administration-Examiner~y2009m8d15-Pulling-the-plug-on-the-Republicans

"Senator Grassley's remark that the healthcare bill the Democrats are proposing would be  "pulling the plug on grandma" is just the latest example of Republican distortions and outright lies. The part of the bill he's referring to was written by a Republican and Grassely himself voted for something similar a few years ago in a different bill. Other Republicans ( not just Palin) have referred to these provisions as "death panels".  The AARP has already come out to debunk these and other  Republican misreprentations relating to seniors."

If you don't like the eventual health care changes, you can blame the hate radio, angry white man attitude of creating chaos for the sake of derailing this country. Just will not work.

AND WHAT AN AIRHEAD SARAH PALIN IS!

Palin Advocated End-of-Life 'Death Panel' Counseling in 2008

http://www.pensitoreview.com/2009/08/14/palin-was-100-for-end-of-life-death-panel-counseling-in-2008/

"But last year, when Palin was governor of Alaska, she was 100 percent behind end-of-life counseling. In fact, as governor, she decreed April 16, 2008, to be "Death Panel Day" — er, sorry — "Healthcare Decision Day"...

The proper response when some Republican says they don't want the federal government meddling in health care or end of life decisions is "Terri Schaivo."

May you live in interesting times.

They do not understand the term hypocrisy. Either that or they all just have poor ethics and the hidden goal of controlling "their" cuntry through intimidation no matter the fallout nor the fact the people's votes were meaningless. We know when Dubya got elected the Republican attitude was the votes were meaningless.

If republican liars and obstructionists were not being paid to derail the process by using hate and fear as their tools to destroy American fairness this legislation would be moving forward. But politics is the republican motivator and not the priority of helping those that need a hand up. This is a family issue. This is a fairness issue. And this is an issue of looking out for each other.

So, you have to ask yourself, who are the players in opposition to health care reform? IOW, follow the money. From my perspective it appears to be three distinct groups: Health Insurance companies, Pharmaceuticals and fringe elements of the Republican party. Is that a reasonable breakdown?

The health insurance tubbies don't think much of competition. They fear the government is going to squeeze them out of the market place in spite of evidence to the contrary like UPS, FedX vs. the USPS. Change would mean having to cope with the realities of the marketplace just like GM, Ford, Chase etc. have had to do. You would think they would relish having new insureds added to the pool. They prefer the cherry picking process.

I like the advice many Libertarians on this forum have given those entities, "Change, adjust or die and be replaced with those who do". The bailouts, even if successful, are a distortion of free market capitalism and supply/demand principles. Government competes in many arenas with private business in an effort to stimulate or direct industry to serve its public. Often, like the river development, they exceed what is necessary. Yet, it seems they have to get into the marketplace as corporates have lost sight of their prime objective which is to serve the public at a profit, not profit by allowing fewer choices of product with larger margins.

Pharmaceuticals are bloated pigs at the trough of humanity. Pay or die, our price or go to Canada. They want their ride to continue and changing the insurance system probably means changes in margins. Can't support that. They like their incestuous relationships with the hospitals, clinics and insurance carriers the way it is.

The fringe elements of the Republican party are simply against any progress that Obama,  Democrats or well meaning moderate Republicans may effect. To them its a football game. Winning is everything. No compromise, no prisoners, no mercy. One has to question their patriotism and their motives in precluding any discussion of the health care proposals. Demonizing elements that they in fact had earlier proposed or supported, knowing that the public is never going to know because THEY in fact control the media and if they do realize won't care, is not politics as usual. In my tenure on the planet, I have never seen such a spectacle.

We have become the laughingstock of the world of healthcare. We ignore the successes of Canada, Germany, France, England and others. We exclaim that we have the best health care in the world without mentioning that it is only available to a fraction of the public.

That's my take on it.
