I plan on going today at lunch. Anyone else planning to go or have been already?

Do they move that inside if it's raining?

That would be physically impossible.

I just picked up lunch from there, I recommend Johnson's brisket plate for $12.

Walked down there with some people from work today. I had the pulled pork plate from Johnson's. The coleslaw was passable, the beans were horrible and the pork was adequate at best.

Heard terrible reports about the Aussie place and Big Boned, or whatever the name is. Only place that got a positive report was the Coyote place and even then I was told the meat was just ok but that the sauce was better than average.

We were all pretty much underwhelmed with the food and agreed that the food at the Bixby BBQ & Blues is much better.

We went yesterday and got a full rack from Johnson's and were, as others have stated, underwhelmed. We just moved from Indiana and heard Rasta Joe was going to be there. He's from a podunk town in Indiana adjacent to the small town I grew up in. We've been using his dry rub for a while now. Can't buy it in stores here, so we wanted to pick some up. We tried a sample of ribs there too. They were ok. Their rub, on the other hand, is excellent. We use it often on pork, chicken breasts, and beer can chicken. If you're going, I suggest you pick some up and try it. Only $5 a bottle. Willinghams sells theirs for $12.

I have a friend who travels and competes at BBQ festivals in Okla and surrounding states.  He predicted that there wouldn't be any good bbq at this event, and it seems he was right.

Next year, just make it a BBQ competition like the "Art of BBQ."  We've got plenty of people in the region who are experts at this skill.  No need to import "fer-ners"...unless they want to come learn how it's actually done!

Can't say I'm surprised that Okies seem to prefer BBQ made by Oklahomans. Well, Duh. They also don't like french food, mass transit and subtitled films. The idea was to bring in the best BBQ competitors in the Nation (of which these people have won hundreds if not thousands of championships.)

Personally I like being able to try Memphis dry rub without going to Memphis and finding out what people from a country that hangs upside down think BBQ should taste like.

I travel a lot and have eaten BBQ all over this country. In fact I got back from North Carolina a couple of weeks ago and had some good stuff there. I still stand next to my statement that what I had from Johnson's was barely adequate.
