Lets hope the Nobel committee people don't end up on the olympic committee, they'll be handing out medals at the Rio airport luggage pickup.

That is a good one...

You can't laugh at somebody for winning the super bowl.

You can laugh at the people who chose him.

You can't laugh at him because he didn't do anything :D

Gaspar

I don't get it.  He was notified earlier this year that he was nominated for the Nobel Prize.  He publically admonished our commander, Gen. McChrystal, on national television.  Today he won the prize.  This morning  the NATO Commander in Afghanistan recommended a similar troop surge as McChrystal, and the Whitehouse is expected to comply to the request of this foreign commander???. . . Oh! I get it.
When attacked by a mob of clowns, always go for the juggler.

So what? You don't want NATO help? Get real.

There's a little-known stipulation in the awarding the prize, in honor of its founder, the inventor of dynamite: every so often the award goes to the person who, as Martin Luther King Jr put it, is "the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today."

Wilbur

Clearly a "F U Bush" award.

Surely, someone, some place around the world did more to promote peace.  Please, tell me this is so!

Hmm, after reading over their policy statement(s) my political beliefs are very close to theirs.

That's funny C, I said this a month or so ago when I referenced this same party.  Wouldn't that be rich, you and I belonging to the same party.  Come on Oklahoma and give us open primaries!

The Whigs had me at "Do not legislate morality"

(Fiscal responsibility isn't a bad bonus either)

Man, the more I read their policies and philosophies, I thought: "Yep, oh yeah, smart!, l agree!"
"It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession. I have learned that it bears a striking resemblance to the first" -Ronald Reagan

Exact same with me.  I registered D because I relate to them more on the social level, but I don't agree with over-spending they have a history of doing.  And keeping their morals out of our government.  The R party was not like that until Reagan took over when he essentially caved to the Evangelicals, realizing they could be a big Republican support base.  That hasn't turned out quite like the moderate, middle of the road Republican thought it would, I'm guessing.

Yes Gaspar, it's all part of a vast, leftwing conspiracy.
God, I love irony.   ;D

we vs us

So I guess it surprised pretty much everybody, including Obama.  I don't know why we don't look at it as unexpected gift of international political capital and let it ride.  Here's a gift of international goodwill, don't squander it.  That kinda thing.

You can also see it as a vote of confidence from the Eurozone.  Maybe it'll help with dealing with Iran, NK, Russia, etc.

Or Afghanistan.

You know, if we "look at it as unexpected gift of international political capital and let it ride," then.... THE TERRORISTS WIN!!!

Did I mention how much I love irony?   ;D

So, wevus, what part of Chi-town were you from?  I forget.... Uptown/Edgewater/Rogers Park here.
