Tulsa's Piccadilly Cafeteria closed

Apparently Tulsa's last Piccadilly Cafeteria has just closed.  Fixtures were seen out in the parking lot, ready to be hauled away.  The building itself is in a state of disrepair.  It's an inglorious end to Piccadilly's long run in Tulsa.  Piccadilly's web site now lists no locations in Tulsa.

I grew up with my parents frequently taking us to dinner at Piccadilly in Southroads Mall.  I remember always standing in long lines just to get to the serving line.  When Woodland Hills Mall opened, we continued to eat at Piccadilly there, too.  After the mall locations were gone, there were two free-standing Piccadilly Cafeterias in Tulsa: one at 91st and Memorial and the one on 51st between Harvard and Yale.  The 91st and Memorial location closed many years ago, with the 51st Street cafeteria remaining in operation until now.  Although I never went there, I understand that Piccadilly even had a downtown Tulsa location long, long ago.  I have no idea when it closed.

While Tulsa's last Piccadilly Cafeteria had certainly seen better days and was a shadow of its former self, I'm still sorry to see it go.  We would regularly go there during my visits to Tulsa, but eventually quit going because of menu changes and certain surly employees who made the experience less than pleasant.  That said, there were many very friendly employees, too, and the manager was always great with customer service.  I hope that those who have lost jobs find other employment soon.

The amount of Luby's has also gown downhill. Not to mention Borden's, Furr's, Black eyed pea and it's spawn Delta Cafe. Kinda surprising that the era of chain home-cooking restaurants has gone and local diners are taking back the market.

I still get to Furr's once a month or so. Really enjoy the selection and variety. Never leave wanting. Fresh, too, which makes it good.

That's one place I go to EAT. Most times, don't even know what I'm after until I get there and look at all the choices.

That is sad.  It was one of my favorite places to eat at one time, but the quality had gone down in recent years.  I always liked the huge water feature with the pots and pans that they had when they first opened [on 51st].
