Metropolitan Police Departments?

Even thought state law doesnt specifically provide for them, could Metropolitan Police Departments be created anyway?
If Tulsa lays off the rumored 50-100 officers, how would a Metropolitan arrangement actually work?
...or is this just more FOP scare tactics? 

(For some reason I cant get the mental picture of the Bixby cop trying to shoot out someone's tires out of my head...)

KRMG was reporting that TCSD might wind up being contracted to do work in place of laid off officers.

I think we need to re-align priorities from other departments.  Even beginning to think of laying off 50 to 100 officers when we are near a record homicide level is pure stupidity.  And listening to the sound bites of our new mayor since he took office seems to bear out the stupidity issue.  Or at least a simpleton.  Mayor Forrest Bartlet (sic).

The newest info ( it changes hourly), is 56 officers to save 2.2 million and 123 officers to save 4.4 million. The city has decided doing away with the out of Tulsa take home cars won't really save 1.1 million (I guess the FOP was right.) and that doing away with all take home cars won't even save that. Now there is people talking about doing away with TPD altogether and letting TCSO police the city. So yes, The FOP (TPD officers) are scared.  This has turned so crazy I don't know what to think anymore.

It would not be out of the question for this bunch in city hall to either turn it all over to the county or to outsource law and order....the recent mayoral campain combination of "we are looking at privatizing some city functions" and "Tulsa's citizens should feel safe"....er, Conan you might be right about simpleton (let's just refer to it as the SIMPLEton SIMONson administration! )

No, the FOP was going to give them up but the city said no. It wouldn't save that much money. The city is saying it has to have for sure savings not projected savings. So they are wanting the lay-offs because it is sure savings. They are also trying to sell one of the helicopters but they aren't having much luck.

Anyway, those that get laid off have jobs waiting for them in Dallas, who has said they will hire them all.
Which only leaves the decision as to who's standards the new Metro / Mutual Aid arrangement will abide.

Will TCSO depudies be getting 4-year degrees now, or will we swing the other way? (Considering that dogs can be considered Tulsa Police Officers....)   
If Stanley Glanz ends up with the whole ball of wax as Director of Public Safety, ill bet he falls back on what's comfortable to him.
