Sullivan foes pushing TU ex-coach Rader to run

First Congressional District Republicans who are dissatisfied with incumbent Rep. John Sullivan are trying to talk former University of Tulsa football coach Dave Rader into challenging Sullivan in this year's GOP primary election. "Everybody involved has their own different reasons," said Josh McFarland, a Jenks contractor who announced the group's formation at Tuesday's meeting of the Tulsa Republican Women's Club.

"I'm just looking for somebody who is more innovative."

McFarland said he wants a more active congressman than Sullivan has been. He said others are unhappy with Sullivan's 2008 vote on the Troubled Asset Relief Program. "We're looking for a congressman," McFarland said. "We don't believe we have one who is doing anything." Reached by telephone, Rader was noncommittal. "It's been presented to me," he said. "I'm thinking it over."

Rader played football at TU in the late 1970s and was head coach at the school from 1988 to 1999. He works now for Linde Process Plants in Tulsa.

I grew up with Dave Rader and played football with him at Wilson Junior High and Will Rogers High School.

He is one of the most gracious and high moral people I have ever known. Having someone of his caliber in Congress would be such a glorious opportunity.

If you know Dave, tell him to go for it.

We need to quit saying: 'anyone but" when it comes to finding candidates.  Do we really want another RNC puppet as our representative?

I agree with the "anything but" nonsense. If a Sally Kern extremist type ran against him, you can bet the farm I'd vote for Sullivan.

Still, Sullivan has been an poor-performing congressman, and he's had more than enough time to prove his worth (or lack thereof). And I'm not even considering the vices that put him in the drunk tank. It may be time for a change.

Well sounds like Dave's got a job then.

Until the DNC takes Oklahoma seriously, Rep. Sullivan will continue to draw only token opposition from Democrats and good GOP candidates won't mount a serious attack on him in the primaries until there's a serious Democratic threat.

Georgiana (sp?) Oliver seemed to be a serious candidate.  Her shortfall was she had zero name recognition in the district prior to running, so it was real easy to label her as a liberal carpet-bagger.  Adelson can't possibly win the seat, he outed himself as being way to liberal for any Oklahoma district.  That poor guy was grossly mis-handled by his advisors in the Mayoral race, or either he didn't use any advisors and that's why his campaign became such a train wreck.

Who do the Democrats have in the area that is moderate enough to pass muster with this district?

Nutz. Adelson did not want to run every two years.

Georgianna was not a democrat priority. She was a bit of a maverick.

Sully is vulnerable. Rader is a star.

Good luck. Rader in a landslide? Should be easy to draw the distinction between a sick person and a healthy one.

Thought it might be Holland but she announced today she'd be running for Insurance comish again.

Run Dave run.

Coco, why do you put down Tulsa voters? Because they keep electing the shyster Repigs?

The info was correct, but a better offer came up. I even saw campaign flyers at the printer.

The coaching job is a good gig and he seems to still have a passion for coaching football. It seems like way more fun than being a politician these days.
