Is anybody going to the show this week? She will be in town with that guy from Glenbeckistan at a show at the convention center.

The BokCenter will have a basketball tournament going on, the PAC will be showing the Gridiron comedy show, and the Cain's ballroom is booked for a show with six bands.

It should be a full night in downtown Tulsa.

Odd that a non-profit  group like the Salvation Army would bring in such a partisan political figure to speak at their banquet. Bill O'Reilly is no better than Michael Moore. I would think a charity would have more sense.

Having someone like him as the speaker makes me not want to put any money in their red kettles.

So. . . That's a no?

She should combine her book tour with bounty hunter and media whore Duane "Dog" Chapman, who will be in town promoting his self-pitty book detailing how betrayed he feels after his son outed him calling his girlfriend the "N-word".

What a pair they would make, and they appeal to the same demographics.

O'Reilly partisan? He's the "No spin zone", remember?

Salvation Army may be non-profit but they sure arent non-political.  Ask the motorcycle lobby group A.B.A.T.E. why they parted company with the SA on their Christmas children's toy drive.

I know a few GLBT groups and individuals that also refuse to work with SA, due to their anti-gay rights stance.

Somehow I assumed the Salvation Army was don't ask/don't tell.

Well they are a Christian organization, so I would assume they probably have Christian beliefs, and an organizational compass that is guided by Christian principals.

So. . . I doubt they will see too much support from Gay rights groups, NAMBLA, or a host of other organizations that require recognition and legitimization to survive.

Did you know that they have CROSSES stitched on the lapels of their uniforms?

I'm surprised the ACLU hasn't managed to get the "world's largest cross" near Groom, Tx. dismantled.  You CAN see it from a gubment-funded highway after all.

Just came to mind since we drove past it last week.

I have no problem with them having their belief systems. I chose to work with organizations which do not make religion a large part of their charity work, precisely because I realize that I will have less conflicts with them.

As an aside, I must admit that I was a little taken back by your grouping of gay rights and NAMBLA together. I fail to see the connection there and have absolutely no qualms with saying that I felt your comment to be one of the most ignorant things I've read in a while (and I've read many posts between FOTD and Guido  ;))

I was simply trying to provide examples of organizations who's existence is based more on recognition and exploitative litigation than actual service to their respective groups.  I had no intension of establishing any "grouping" with exception to the adoption of similar battlements.

I was simply giving example of organizations that I assume the Salvation Army would shy away from and vise versa.

Interesting to note, I would assume the Salvation Army would never withhold compassion and service from any person no matter what their walk in life is.  I could care less what a charitable group's religious/philosophical beliefs are.  As I do with people, I judge groups on their actions, and I CANNOT find fault with The Salvation Army.

No, they do not worship as I do, or vote as I do.  They may adopt beliefs that I disagree with, but that simply does not give me reason to cast their good work aside.

I suppose I'm trying to expand my "ignorance" and find a nice cozy place right in between FOTD and Guido.  I think that's where sanity lies.

OK ... clue me in. What was ABATE's beef with the Salvation Army?
