Anybody know the status of the Cellar Dweller, why it closed and when it will reopen?

It's been closed for a while, then a sign appeared promising an early March reopening. But it's still not open. Hope they reopen, and add a tap or three of draft beer. That was the main deficiency of that bar, in my mind.

I know the owner has been traveling a lot perhaps that's got something to do with it

A friend of a friend (always the best source) said it will be open again on May 1st.

This is my favorite escape and I don't want your hopes getting up that it will re-open.  I fear it will remain closed, so my advise is that somebody respectably shady buy it up and don't change a thing...

I'll drop the owner an email (he pops in and out of TNF from time-to-time) and see what he says.

HAHA okay you try to email him and get him to open the bar, good luck because you'll need more than you know to convince him to come out of his freedom to travel retirement.  I had a dinner conversation with him this weekend that didn't give me any hope.

Aaaah, you know him too.  Enough said.  I was simply going to find out the straight dope as to when it was going to open.  He emailed me from Mexico last week wanting to know if I might have some banana trees to spare for his back yard.  I think he's having too much fun.  Kinda surprised he wouldn't just get someone to run it for him.  A small bar like that has got to be like owning your own ATM machine.

Is that where you start with a full ATM and end up with an empty one?

I really hope it reopens. Outside of the Blue Dome and Brady, there aren't really any real bars downtown other than Orpha's. All the hotel bars close at unpredictable times, almost always before 2am.

And it'd be even nicer if the Cellar Dweller would add a couple taps, maybe a Marshall's, a Guinness and something else tasty. A bar in Oklahoma without draft beer isn't much of a bar at all to this beer lover. At least not enough to get me to leave my home and venture away from my fridge full of non-Okie-fied beer.

Not to mention all the waste inherent in the consumption of bottled beer, more fuel burned to transport, energy to make the bottles, bottles in the landfills, etc.

I haven't been up there since around the holidays, but Crystal Pistol up by the Cain's on Main has/had $2 Guiness draws.  You can't beat that.  Interestingly enough, the owner of the Cellar Dweller's brother owns the CP.

I love the Crystal Pistol for that very reason.

The difference between a mediocre bar and a great bar can be as simple as adding a couple taps of good beer.

Going to the bar for bottled beer for me is like going out to eat a tombstone pizza. The main reason to eat and drink at bars/restaurants is because it's better than you can easily prepare yourself.

Is Shifty still working up at the Pistol?  That Carly Simon smile is reason enough to go in there.

It's been a while, long winter and all. I need to get back there and find out if she's still there.

ha!!!, i didnt know it was being missed so much, im either flattered or scared. yes im on a sabbatical and exploring a few other business opportunities in texas and south/central america. it might be open may 1, or i may stay on the rod a little while longer.

surprisingly to me the groundswell to reopen, there have been a few facebook groups formed to pressure me to re-open, and i get 2-3 notes tucked under the door a week asking when when when!

did you guys read about the knife attack on the 3 homeless guys across the street from the bar? just like the good ol days of the bowen lounge!

ill keep you filled in, and yes. i may take the time to add a keg system while im closed. i have it drawn out, the only problem is getting them down there as we dont have an elevator.

I figure getting them down is easy, up is the hard part. Gravity helps in some cases.
