Tulsa Gold and Gems commercial

I've now seen two gold sales commercials with TPD uniformed officers in them, the most recent being Tulsa Gold and Gems.  Does Tulsa not have a restriction on using the uniforms, cars and other items in advertisments like this?  Also the Gold and Gems one said the one portraid was a sheriff, so not sure what was going on with that.

sgrizzle

The ones I've seen weren't TPD, but rural police departments.

I was double checking when the commercial was on lastnight because it confused me when they said that he was a sheriff and he was were wearing blue.  If they are from a rural department, then their sleeve logo looks identical from the front view to TPD's.  The other commercial, which I think is for the gold store on 41st and sheridan, has a spot in it where someone that is wearing a very TPD looking uniform is standing at the counter like a customer.

Places like these have a reputation of making a burglar's job easier by helping to dispose of stolen jewelry very fast.  I guess whoring the reputations of local sheriff's is some attempt to offset that.

think most of you that have responded are cut from the same cloth. You are spouting out about either something you know nothing about and want answers to, or you claim to think you know the answers and are so far from the truth. Really crazy how people can bad mouth a business, when they have no clue as to what they are talking about.

I really did my research before selling my gold inheritance and for starters, Tulsa Gold and Gems (this is the store on 91st & Yale, not the other company on 41st & Sheridan) has been established for 27 years here in Tulsa. They have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. Compared to any other gold buyer they are known to be top notch. IF you haven't visited their location, it is truly unlike any of the others. Their lobby resembles a bank lobby, super clean and very nice. If you happen to simply look at the reviews left on Google about this company, or check them out on Facebook, their company is tops. I took my inheritance to a few other local buyers as well, and no one paid anywhere close to what Tulsa Gold and Gems offered me. I also noticed these other gold buyers had no customers in the store and Tulsa Gold and Gems was packed. When I was there, I asked them why would these other gold buyers offer so much less? You would think they would want my business. ??? The gentleman said, "Because most of the other gold buying companies employees work off commission.". He said they pay more for gold than anyone in the nation. From what I found, that was the truth.

I did find it strange that I had to give my drivers license in order to complete the transaction, but the gentleman told me that is how the law reads in order to purchase precious metals. He said one copy of the sales ticket is for me, one is for him and one goes to the Tulsa police department. So, with that said, I think you are just plain ridiculous to think this company purposely takes in stolen merchandise. Just that fact that it is very high security (cameras), they make a copy of your DL and you sign off on the purchase ticket on how long you have owned the merchandise. Why in the world would a criminal go there? Especially when the Sheriff back them.....DUH! I would think they would go up north to some hole in the wall pawn shop that maybe is a little lax in their documentation.

Plus, understand, the Sheriff is backing this company. He says he has personally dealt with Tulsa Gold and Gems and recommends them to everyone. Would you guys not start a thread if Big Bird or Ronald McDonald backed this company, but have a problem when a guy with integrity does?? He is a sheriff, and served on the Tulsa Police department for ever.....

Know your facts and think about what you say....otherwise put a sock in it.

Last line is not a very good way to endear yourself as a first-time poster.

Maybe you should practice a little of what your preaching there, pardner...

Talking down to people with your first post sure won't make you any friends here. If you hang around long enough, you will find that TulsaNow posters are among the most-informed of residents.

I don't think people are questioning the intergrity of the Sheriff. But he is an elected official and people are caught off guard when he appears in commercials. It would be the same if the Mayor, County Commissioner or City Auditor did a commercial for a private company. I personally don't think it is appropriate, but of course, there are no laws prohibiting it.
Power is nothing till you use it.

Now patric.... what you are kinda referring to would be akin to a "fence"

Consider this method... Run a nice bold type "standing" add in four or five newspapers... or only one, if you have access to something like the LA Times.

"I BUY GOLD AND SILVER FOR CASH"   call- #disposable cell number

you acquire a gold testing kit and an automobile. Protection if you feel it necessary. and you are good to go.

Then you are making life, for the people that come by the goods in a wrongful manner, much easier.

No need to slander people that are doing business in the light of day.

Big Bird and Ronald McDonald do not get payed by taxpayer money, nor are they in a postion to represent the city, or even a department of the city.  Nor are they appearing in official county/city uniforms on the commercial.  I don't particularly like any business being able to use city/county officials, in a seemingly official capacity, to hawk their wares.  If the individual wants to do so as an individual, then they shoudl do so in such a way, which means street clothes, and without the official title.  However, there is apparantly no law nor department regulation against it, so this nothing more then my personal opinion on it.

Also, as others have said, starting off with such a poor attitude will do little to endear you to others, or to strengthen your position in anyones eyes.

Point taken.  What actually came to mind was the outfits that let you just mail in your gold, and the send you a check for what they think it's worth.
Having said that, I still have an ethical problem with public servants selling the dignity of their office to the private sector.  Next thing you know you will have some city councilor's face on a billb...oh, never mind.

Those ads have been bothering me also.   I have been wondering when the Sheriffs department will start painting ads on the sides of their cars that we pay for about selling your gold.   Beck must be so proud of the Sheriffs department of Tulsa County.
It's hard being a Diamond in a rhinestone world.

I agree about the "public servants".

Very funny "tongue in cheek about the billboard"
