There's about a zillion tangents in that video, and quite a bit of is parody. So it's hard to tell what they're being serious about and where they're winking at the audience.

How are they not taking it seriously?

The newswires and photo wires sent frequently updated stories from the beginning. Every day, when I went to work, I heard something about it on the radio. It's not as if it was being ignored.

Admitted, the scope of the disaster wasn't known for a while. But even residents weren't sure how bad it was until they got back to their homes and started looking around their neighborhoods at daylight. I've got friends in Nashville, and many folks got back to their homes many hours late because the floodwaters kept them from going their usual routes. Communications were down because of the flood and power outages.

As for the government, FEMA was there from the beginning. And my friends in Nashville are saying they're doing a good job.

An acquaintance in Nashvegas (as they often call it) noted that a few of the male country music singers who constantly sing how tough and independent they are were among the first to start whining about the flood. The irony wasn't lost on him -- and me, too.

BTW: The Country Music Hall of Fame was back open less than a week after the flood.

I remember how little the rest of the world notices when we have massive ice storms or killer tornadoes around here. You feel really ignored no matter how much attention you get.

Nashville has to share time with the massive offshore oil leak, the Teaparty stuff, the economy, Afghanistan, Times Square, UK elections and Supreme Court nominees. I think they're getting their share of coverage.
