Jenks' Langer commits to TU

JENKS — The recruiting chain between Jenks and the University of Tulsa appears to have added another link. Running back Zack Langer has given a verbal commitment to play football at TU in 2011. "Jake (Alexander) and Trent (Martin) are going to school there," Langer said, naming his Jenks teammates. "I really like the coaches. As a program, it's getting better and better every year and has a chance of winning Conference USA championships."

Langer was a first-team all-state pick last season. The 6-0, 197-pound senior-to-be led Class 6A with 2,446 rushing yards and 39 touchdowns in 2009. Included in that season was a school-record 320-yard performance against Edmond Memorial and another 294-yard, seven-touchdown game at Bartlesville. He laughed when talking about reuniting with Alexander, an offensive lineman named the Tulsa World metro player of the year. "I really want to run behind Jake again," said Langer, who added that proximity also played a role. "He is awesome to run behind."

Tulsa is the only school to offer him an early scholarship, he said, but said Stanford had shown interest of late.

Getting his recruiting decision out of the way is a good feeling, Langer said. "I kind of wanted to commit before my senior season started," he said. "TU was really interested in me and I just thought it was a good team for me." Langer and Martin join Texas tight end Colt Clontz in giving verbal commitments. Those pledges aren't binding until a letter of intent is signed next February.
