The metal band around the phone is actually two antennas.

Some people are reporting signal loss if placing their hand a certain way. Any light bit of research will note that hand placement has had some effect on some units of every model handset since the bag phone. I've had people bringing it up all day and I still can't make it drop a single bar.

I think you have to hit the right spot on the phone so that you arc the two antennas

It's people who eat too much red meat.  It's all the iron in their blood.

And yes, I finally did get converted to OS 4 although other than the merged email functions I really have not seen any major differences to appreciate the donkey-pain I went through to upgrade.

Folders are nice.

But I think I am now going to upgrade sooner rather than later.

How to Downgrade Your iPhone 3Gs from iOS 4 to iOS 3.1.3

QuoteA lot of iPhone 3G owners have discovered that upgrading to iOS 4 has slowed their devices to a crawl. If you decide the new features and shortcuts just aren't worth the glacial performance, here's how to downgrade your iDevice.

I am going to downgrade when I get home.  The 3g runs ios4 so slowly.  It is quite horrible

The 3GS runs it like a champ.  Granted I only had two days to use 3.1.3.

The first day my 3GS seemed slow, but now it blazes.  I've heard the same from several people that it seems to slow down for a day or two and then works just fine.  I don't understand why this would happen, but then again, Apple is using alien technology, so it may have to do with planetary alignment.

I have read on several other forums that if you have a 3G iphone, and its running slow after updating to IOS4, to do a Hard Reset twice in a row (done by holding both the home key and lock button on the top) till the screen goes black.  I personally havent updated my 3g yet since I got the iphone4, but again, I have read this on multiple forums and it is said it clears out the old cache and a few other things.  Give that a try if your 3g is still running slow after the update.

EDIT:  Here is one of the forums I read it on....

Yeah, too bad the required one flash update immediately after shipping because the memory card wasn't writeable, now they are having to block a second flash update because it bricks the whole phone. Plus there is the whole "portions of the screen not working" issue.. and the "screen coming apart" issue. The 4G is worthless in 97% of the country as well. There has been no major rollout yet, and testing has shown that even if you are in a 4G market,  you get better speeds by disabling 4G and using 3G unless you are within a few hundred yards of the tower.

EVO was a lot of promise that didn't deliver.

Sprint making waves about another provider's service is a strange thing.

What I don't understand is that Microsoft said that one of the problems with Windows Mobile was that it was getting diluted and hard to support due to all of the versions and pieces of hardware, so they are limiting devices that will get Windows 7. Android is going farther the other way.

This chart was done before Froyo (the current version, 2.2) was released but as you can see, most everyone using android is a point older OS (1.x) Part of this is do to HTC throwing SenseUI on top of Android, meaning HTC has to build new packages for every release for their devices.

While I would say Microsoft is in the middle, Apple is on the other end of the spectrum, and you definitely can't beat them at adoption rates of their versions(3.1.2 and 3.1.3 are feature-identical):

Watch out Scott, you might get branded as an iPhone 'fanboy'....

I did a LOT of research on phones, including the HTC, the EVO, and the Backflip.  I ALMOST got the backflip in June, but waited to see the reviews.  Glad I did.

Sofar, I'm happy with the 3GS I got.  iOS4 makes it run pretty snappy.

That video was pretty funny though...

I've been told he gives Steve Jobs on the corner for new apps.
