The difference, of course, is that the owners of the vehicles with the destroyed engines consented to said destruction, that the entire vehicle was not destroyed, so useful parts could still be salvaged to repair other vehicles, and that the program specifically applied only to the replacement of vehicles getting poor gas mileage with those meeting a certain, more stringent, emissions standard.

Not that cash for clunkers is in any way relevant.

Yes, but the engine and accessories are a big part of the salvage value, not to mention the vehicles were most likely sent to a metal scrapper and not to salvage yards. I know someone at one of the local yards and they were all furious over C4C as it severely hindered their ability to get material.

Something else to remember is that the salvage yards had 90 days to strip all the parts, after that they went to the shredder. They could not keep any of the drive train components, nothing off of the engine, transmission and, in the case of RWD, the rear end assembly.

While his commentary at the end is his own, some very good points are brought out in this.

Total BS.  The government does everything right, including Cash For Clunkers.

I am so glad I wasn't drinking anything at that point in time.

Yeah, that's exactly what I said. It was a perfect program.  ::)

There's a quote about the perfect being the enemy of the good. You might want to mull that one over for a while.
"Labor is prior to and independent of capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration" --Abraham Lincoln

No thanks, I'll leave that to people with more time on their hands than I do.

Depending on the model 18 to 21 MPG.

From cars.com

http://www.cars.com/volvo/s80/2000/

the combined city highway had to be 18 or less.  The criminal thing was it was 18 or less on the NEW epa mileage standards, which are WAY too conservative...so a lot of good cars died for no good reason other than to get some free obummer money.

C4C was just a free gift to china who quickly scooped up the cheap scrap fresh on the market and shipped it back to make cheap sh iT boxes their own people could drive around and generated more pollution.

I'll pay for the insurance if they'll pay for the gas.
