He's trying to justify his extravagance based on an extremely isolated incident where two examiners in Louisiana died in an apparent muder-suicide, and that they "weren't equipped to protect themselves" because they only had sidearms and not shotguns.

But the real questions arent why settlement money that should have gone to insurance fraud victims went instead to his slush fund,
(just because it isnt taxpayer money doesn't mean it isnt public funds)

or why he needs to equip insurance examiners for high-speed chases and shootouts,

Fleets qualify for assistance from the manufacturer.  Sometimes the assistance is significant.

I don't share my thoughts because I think it will change the minds of people who think differently.  I share my thoughts to show the people who already think like me that they are not alone.

The state of Oklahoma goes out for bid to purchase cars. Then any state agency can buy under the state contract price.

It is always a very good deal.

Doak is a moron.  I think he got elected mainly due to party line voting.

Would have thought posers would be getting the stinkeye from legitimate law enforcement, but apparently he's got one of the unions:

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma Association of Chiefs of Police has passed a resolution of support for the Oklahoma Insurance Department's Anti-Fraud Unit, whose spending on vehicles and weapons has been questioned recently.

OKLAHOMA CITY - A bill aimed at curbing the purchasing practices of state Insurance Commissioner John Doak passed a Senate panel Monday.

Sen. Harry Coates, R-Seminole, said he wrote Senate Bill 8 after learning that Doak spent thousands of dollars on police vehicles for his anti-fraud unit.
The measure heads to the Senate floor after securing passage by a vote of 7-0 from the Senate Committee on General Government.
The measure prohibits investigators from operating specialized motor vehicles that are equipped and marked in a manner that is different from other department vehicles.
If signed into law, the measure would require Doak to sell the vehicles, Coates said.
"Insurance fraud in Oklahoma is rampant," said Owen Laughlin, deputy commissioner of the Insurance Department and a former state senator. "The whole idea behind putting anti-fraud on the side is to try to have a presence at those places. They know people are watching. We know it deters fraud if we show up with some kind of presence."

Who exactly are they policing for insurance fraud?

Agents?
Consumers filing fraudulent claims?
Insurance companies?

I'm still trying to figure out who this roving band of insurance fraudsters are that need to be chased down by armed insurance department G-men.

If forced to sell the equipment, maybe ABLE will buy it to continue their stormtrooper tactics. ;)

QuoteThe Oklahoma Senate passed a bill Tuesday that would clamp down on the purchasing practices of Insurance Commissioner John Doak. Senate Bill 8 by Sen. Harry Coates, R-Seminole, passed by a vote of 39-5 and heads to the House. Coates said he wrote the bill after learning that Doak had bought police-type vehicles for his anti-fraud unit, which Coates said was unnecessary. Doak also bought weapons and uniforms for the unit. Coates said his bill would force the agency to sell the vehicles but would let its investigators carry sidearms. Coates said Doak is trying to create a police force, essentially expanding government.

Maybe he's arming his followers to secede..

Federal officials have notified Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John Doak that they are taking over large parts of health insurance regulation in the state to ensure state rules comply with the Affordable Care Act.
Federal law does not require states to enforce the requirements under the Affordable Care Act, but it does require the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to enforce the law's protection if the state does not, a March 15 letter from CMS Deputy Administrator and Director Gary Cohen to Doak says.
