Yet another example of the self-righteous evangelical groups preaching hateful messages and breaking the laws to conform to the so-called 'God's law'.

This group is really scary. Here is their website:

http://reclaimoklahoma.org/

Quote from site:

Pastor Dan Fisher added, "With Hate Crimes, ENDA, and Don't Ask Don't Tell, it won't be long until chaplains and pastors will face criminal charges for preaching against abortion and homosexuality or arrested for preaching the intolerant message that salvation comes through Jesus Christ alone.  We have seen this month in Dearborn, MI, Christians arrested for simply sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ."

Umm, I thought it was a sin to lie. Or is that only when it doesn't suit you agenda?

Seeing their pictures side-by-side, I'd have more reason to believe Sally Kern was once a man than Brittany Novotny was.

Let's see: enact legislation trying to ensure we don't impliment Sharia law in Oklahoma, but let fundamentalist asshats try and over-run the statehouse.  At least we can all breath slightly easier since Rex Duncan is not running again.

I actually sat in the booth right behind Sally Kern at Cattleman's in OKC a few months ago. She is as stupid sounding as she is ugly. And yes, Brittany Novotny is the much more feminine, articulate and educated one. Unfortunately the completely misguided evangelical voters in the great state of OK will turn out in droves to vote against Brittany because their pastors have told them to.

It always makes me wonder why these types of 'Christians' are so obsessed with gay people. Then some gossip or past sordid details usually emerge and it all starts to make sense.

One such juicy tidbit is that Sally Kern has a gay son, named Jesse, whom she has disowned. Her extreme homophobia makes a little more sense now, although it is a sad and tragic story heard all too often.

Going slightly O/T here but myself and some of my riding partners figured out last night what the problem is some rednecks have with cyclists.  They see men in tight Spandex and it titilates their latent homosexual tendencies, so that in turn makes them flip us off, shout something obscene or cob the gas at the right time to fume us out.  ;D

I always wondered why I got a tingling feeling around you.

Just kidding.

I'm a Christian and not obsessed with gay people, but I have to say from experience that helping to guide a church to teach biblical values but avoid politics is tough. Churches are built (and destroyed) on tradition. Churches aren't BECOMING anti-gay, the vast majority have always been that way. Just in the past no-one admitted they were gay or made political speeches about their stances on gay issues. A Christian's responsibilities including discovering "the right way to live" and then getting themselves and others on that path. It's virtually encoded in the DNA of the church. To a devout Christian, seeing someone openly committing a sin is like seeing someone drive the wrong way down 169. They feel that person is in imminent danger and they should do whatever they can to stop them.

The real corruption in the church is where people have developed internal ranking systems. Cheating on your wife is a 5, but cheating with a man is a 10. Therefore, we need to focus all of our energy going after the 10's. There is no scorecard in the back of the bible and Jesus never said "hate the sin, not the sinner... unless it's a REALLY BAD sin..."

You also have to realize than anytime you get a large group of people in a room together... a few of them are just crazy looking for a place to happen.

Why is it that these crazies tend to rise in the ranks to lead?

And that's the part I do not understand. Many Christians pick and choose what scriptures they wish to follow, believe, or take literally. It's like a smorgasbord to them. Take what they like, and leave the rest. I don't get it.

I also don't get why what 2 consenting adults do in the privacy of their own bedroom is such a hot topic for Christians. Who cares? I don't care what they do.

And that's what it really boils down to- the difference in sexual preferences. Otherwise gay people are pretty much exactly like their straight counterparts. I believe that if all gay people came out of the closet tomorrow, there would be no more discrimination. Everyone could see that gays are just people- neighbors, teachers, policemen, etc.

The fact that many Christians try to demonize all gays is pretty disgusting, and very UN-Christian.

Because most other people have better things to do. It's the same with politicians...

Not true with certain churches, like the United Church of Christ. They have, in more recent years, become what they call 'open and affirming' to all people, including gays. The Methodists, Lutherans, and Episcopals have also come a long way from their 'traditions', and have opened their churches to all people (as it should be).

I just find it ironic that those congregations that protest too much are typically the ones who find themselves involved in some type of scandal.

Just because a church has 'traditions', doesn't mean they are good ones. God did give all of us a brain, and a conscience.

I could tell I made some people very uncomfortable in Sunday school one morning, they were talking about a pastor who had come out and written a book about it.  I can't remember the name now, but that's not really important.  The talk turned to how repugnant it was and shameful he'd been misleading people all these years.

You could have heard a pin drop when I asked who had over-eaten that morning, who drank too much the night before, who was cheating on their spouse, who had lied for their own benefit the previous week, etc.  I don't believe in conditional sin nor degrees of sin, everything I've ever read is that it's all equal in God's eyes.

The back-biting, name-calling, and self-enrichment of pastors has really soured me on organized religion.

He creeped me out even before he was 'exposed'. If you haven't seen 'Jesus Camp', watch it to get a glimpse of just how creepy Ted Haggard really is/was.

Unfortunately he has reinvented himself with a new church in Phoenix, but at least he doesn't try to deny his homo tendencies. He just says he can suppress them with the help of the good lord.

And his wife has written a book called 'Why I Stayed'.  Hmmmm, perhaps a very lucrative book deal? Just a guess...

Nice.  So is his new congregation "all-inclusive" then?  Or is he still trying to preach the gay out of people?

You should try what I do.

I wear jeans and cowboy boots when I ride.  My bike has a set of longhorns on the front and I've got one of those plastic sets of bull-balls hanging from the bottom of my seat.  Every time a pickup truck drives by me, I punch it with my fist and spit skoal on it.

Little do they know, underneath it all, I'm wearing a lacy thong and nipple clamps.
