JAMES CASTLE: PORTRAIT OF AN ARTIST (53 Minutes)
A powerful story of self-taught deaf artist James Castle. Born in rural Idaho in 1899, Castle used soot from the stove, sticks, string and discarded paper products to create landscape and portrait sketches, toy dolls, and books. An early example of an outsider artist, now globally recognized in the art world.
Introduced by Deborah Burke, Associate Curator, Gilcrease Museum
