True story:

Kid in rural Arkansas has a wooden eye. The school dance is coming up, so he asks a girl if she'll go to the dance with him. She says "oh would I, would I!" So he just says "Oh hare lip, hare lip."

(yeah, I'm not so good at the whole joke telling thing)

I agree.  I know that joke and it used to be pretty funny until you destoyed it.  There may have been some collateral damage from it...you most likely made a few unrelated jokes un-funny as well.
