I recently started a job with a franchised plumbing company pumping sewage out of the ground.  ::) Yes, It's a smelly job but 9 month's without a consistent pay check and kids in private school makes it all worth it! Yes, It splashes on you at every job..  ::)  Tuesday Aug. 23 2010 was my first day.  Learned a lot for the week. Noticed quickly through comments made that I was the only "African American" which didn't bother me any.  The week that I was hired the owners son made sure that I understood that I had 2 weeks to pass the CDL test. Which was no problem because it was part of keeping the job. At the time I wasn't informed that it had to be done to keep the job.

As the first week came to a close one of the training employees "suggested" that I go and take the test that first friday to fill it out.  "Suggested" once again per the owners son I had two weeks. Friday of the first week came and the owner introduced himself to me and asked if I had a CDL license. I replied no but I will be taking the test next week.  His responce didn't anyone tell you that you "had" to take the test this week?  I stated no sir.  I was told that the test had to be completed in two weeks.  He stated you were not suppose to get the job with out the CDL so you have to go and take it Monday before you come to work.  Be there at 7:30.  I apologize for the miscommunication but you have to take the test Monday! I asked which location?  He stated Jenks.

He later called his son in the office to make sure we were all on the same page and that I would be taking the test monday.  He asked again no one told you that you had to take the test today?  I stated I was told I had 2 weeks last Friday.

Monday comes and I am on the bus to Jenks to the station that the owner suggested to take the test.  When I pull up I notice there is no one there and the window is shattered. Well obviously no test taking today.  I then take a pict. and send it to my trainer to let him know what happens and then proceed to the Jenks Tag agency.  I asked about the station and was told that they will have it ready by Wednesday.  I asked about the CDL test and was told the 3 locations to go. I called the closest location and was told if you come now you will be in by 1 p.m. the time was 8:45 or so by then.

I called my trainer and asked for a suggestion and he told me to just come to work.  I went to my wives job to take her the vehicle and to wait for the city bus.  The bus wait was 2 hours The skip a run during lunch time.  Finally i'm on my way to work and the boss son calls ask what's going on where were you why are you not her. I explained i'm taking the bus to work. He asked why didn't you take the test  explained the glass was broken at the Jenks location.  He replied I went there and there is no broken glass.  I replied yes there was and I went to the tag agency and explained what she stated and where to go.  He ask well what was her hair color? I said i don't remember but she had a teal shirt with ruffels khaki pants etc. 5' 6" petiti.  He agreed. However he stated there is so much miscommunication and he doesn't want me to continue working with the company. I said why? He went over the trust honesty issue with taking the CDL and not seeing glass at the location and the lady told him that the location with the broken glass has been closed for 2 years.  Did she not tell you?  No not that I recall. However she gave me a paper and told me where to go. and I sent a pict. text of the broken glass so I did show up. I will go to the police station to see if there is a report.

Which I did and they stated no there isn't a report going to be filed do to them being at fault breaking the grass while weed eating.  I went to the county clerk office and explained my dilema cause I needed to clear my name and I needed my job.  She stated yes that is the location where they use to have the CDL testing its been closed for two years.  And yes the glass was broken this morning.  I asked could she put a letter together to prove that I am not being dishonest.  she stated I will call them for you.  WHich she did and stated their reply was "well ok" Thank you"

i believe that if you don't like an employee or don't think that they are cut out then the professional thing to do is let them know that.  Not try to come up with some story to question there integrity.  It wasn't my fault that the father and son did not know how to communicate with each other on who can and who can't be hired.  Nor was it my fault that the father sent me to the wrong location. Nor my fault that the son was to incompetent to know where test were once taken in Jenks.  Even after the city called to correct the owner's son he wasn't professional enough to call me and state hey you were right.  I made a judgement call that was incorrect.  Wether I was going to keep the job or not it's the professional thing to do.  For a company that provides themselves in being professional that failed this test.....

No one had any complaints about my work ethic and I always arrieved10 - 30 min. early due to me taking the bus 3 or the first 4 days.....
Any suggestions on how to handle a company like this in the future?  Was I hired to meet a quota?  Jenks tag agency is 16 miles away from this location 32 mile trip to check to see if the glass was really broken.  Was I deemed to fail with this company?
Never received Hep. B shots or Physical which was stated that are mandates by corporate...

First off, as hard as it is to land a good job in Tulsa right now, let me just say I feel for ya.

Secondly, they sound like idiots, so yeah, I'd be looking for a new place of employment.

And don't ever take a company slogan like, "Professional and Honest Company" seriously. Once you get hired, its office politics, whether its McDonald's or Williams Company. You have to relate to the owner/managers and deal with them face-to-face, and try to play the game.

No invisible ghost is hovering around that place enforcing "Professional and Honest" dealings. Its just a company slogan thought up and designed to enhance profits and/or motive staff.

I've always found that any company that includes "Honest" in the company title or tag does it for a reason.  That reason is typically to heal some public perception of their industry or business practices.

I stay away from "Honest" companies, "Christian" companies (Christian Auto Repair. . .Really?), and any company that says "they'll treat me right."

I want to do business/work for companies that like to make money.  If I know that they're in business for profit that always makes me feel better, because we then have something in common.  We can all achieve.

When attacked by a mob of clowns, always go for the juggler.

Couple of things, the old DPS Testing facility in Jenks now IS now the Jenks Police station, The city of Jenks took back the facility from the state two years ago because Jenks PD needed the space. Second, the tag agency that used to be across the street from the testing facility in Jenks moved some time ago and now is 4-5 blocks away on Main west of Elm.

I did go to the new tag agency that is several blocks away.  The owners son knew that I went to the agency because I was able to describe exactly what the person at the agency was wearing.  honestly I was left feeling that I was only hired to meet the "Affirmative Action" Quota.  Once again he drove a 32 mile round trip to check and see if I was being honest.  A lot of work for someone 2nd in charge don't you think?  Then for the Jenks Court Clerk to call and verify my honesty which was humiliating to request he wasn't Professional enough to call and state that he was wrong.  Wether I got the job back or not.....
