Obama: Tax Cuts Will Help Economy

This can't be so.  Everyone knows tax cuts are just a gift to the rich and they don't create jobs. President Obama must have been slipped some Republicontin or drank some Murdochian Kool-Aid

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama says economists predict higher job growth in 2011 and 2012 if Congress passes tax deal he negotiated with Republicans.

He's urging lawmakers to examine the details of the deal and "get this done."

The agreement would extend expiring Bush-era tax rates to all taxpayers for two years, and extend jobless benefits and cut payroll taxes.

Democrats have objected to the deal. Republicans have praised it.

Obama says: "The American people are watching." He says it's inaccurate to depict Democrats as "betrayed" by the deal, contending that the more they look at it, the more they'll support it.

Regardless if you agree with the tax cuts or not, you have to admit that it is good to see a President willing to step across the isle.  He keeps up doing things like this, and I may almost start liking him at some point.

I think he may become the great uniter that we all hoped for.  Perhaps now that he's getting a legislature he can work with, some good things will come to pass?

I'd be happy to see it.  I have no doubt that having an opposition legislature wound up helping President Clinton's legacy.  Somehow people seem to forget "moderate", "moderation", and "bipartisanship" necessarily require compromise.

I think he actually believes it this time.  Buried deep within the proposal is an additional 30 percent cut in the payroll tax, from 6.2 to 4.2 percent!

President Obama is going to actually cut everyone's payroll taxes!

For the average American that's going to put an additional $1,000 in your pocket.

This deep of a cut usually ends up becoming difficult to reverse. 

Three cheers for President Obama.

Not so long ago we were hearing how the republican party is fractured, that there was some sort of civil war going on within the party, and more recently how they were split on earmark reform. fify. And yes, it has been a little quiet in here. Could it be that Obama embracing tax cuts as a means to stimulate the economy sorta makes him look like he's a supply sider?

I should not have Googled "donkey punch".  It's taken me five minutes to get my breath back and type the cartoon graphic on Wiki struck me as hillarious for some reason.

I've always suspected President Obama might be a closet fan of Friedman, coming from Chicago.  Perhaps the President is figuring out micromanaging the economy won't overcome people's behavior to the contrary- a very strong tenet of Friedman.

The money that one makes via a job/career is a "gift"?.. If thats the case then all tax cuts, middle, low, upper income are all gifts given to you by your government? I am horrified to see that term used when it comes to taxes. Gift, really?

I'm not surprised.  Many products of liberal education view any income as granted by government, or as a product of luck. 

This comes from the popular misconception that "Rights" are granted by governments.
Some even believe that rights are derived by rule of law.

It's useless to argue the point with them.  For most it's not political, but rather psychological.
