Jan. 17 is (statistically) the most depressing day of the year

Depressed? Blame Blue Monday. The third Monday after the new year begins is traditionally the saddest day of the year.

The holidays are over, new year's resolutions have been broken, and you can't seem to shake your cold. To top it off, 2011 is off to a rocky start with horrific headlines like the shooting of U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and 19 others in Arizona. Tired and overwhelmed, or just downright depressed? You're not alone. National acts of violence aside, Blue Monday — the third Monday of the new year — is called the most depressing day on the calendar.

That's funny, it's also usually the first Monday after the Chili Bowl Nationals which is the official end of my holidays.  I have friends in from out of town every year and see others at the event I see only once or twice a year.  It's become an extension of my holidays.  So yeah, it's officially over for me after that when my buddies head out of town that Sunday night.

Next thing to look forward to after that is the Deco Ball on Feb. 26 (shameless plug).

I have to agree with Conan for myself that the Chili Bowl Nationals is the beginning of motorsports season. Chili Bowl, then two weeks later the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
