As I sit here in the office I just stepped out on the porch to see a CoT crew with a truck and a Bobcat preparing to run up and down my street.  Now, getting out of my driveway will be a chore since I destroyed my snow shovel on the second swipe Tuesday morning (grrr); I may still just stay in tomorrow since I can work from home.

EDIT:  Well, it appears they only had the Bobcat there for show; all they were doing was working on a hydrant valve.  Then they took off.

Anybody know of a hardware store that has snow shovels in stock closer than broken arrow? Mine's starting to develop a good sized crack and I don't want to end up without one given the continued chances for snow later in the week.

We got one over at ace on 91st and Memorial.  Good metal one.

I watched my wife shovel the entire driveway and street all the way to the corner yesterday from the comfort of my snuggie.

Well finally tried to get out.  Decided to do a little test drive around the block to see how the ol truck would handle in this snow.  Made it out of the driveway,,,,, promptly got stuck in the road in front of the house,,,,, then it took about 15minutes or so to get out of the middle of the road and back into the driveway.  :P

Sigh... will try putting some weight in the back of the truck and give it a go tomorrow.   Keeping fingers crossed and hoping a random snowplow will go down the street.

Interesting.  Got the Avenger out today for about a 1.5 mile jaunt to the QT at Pine and Mingo which included navigating the Traffic Circle.  The neighborhood was not fun.  This car has a sports suspension so I feel every rut.  It did ok as far as traction goes, but the crews still have a LONG way to go to get them drivable.  I'm likely still staying in tomorrow, but know now that I can at least make the attempt.  I saw no less than 4 abandoned vehicles on my short journey.

After looking at the weather models for the next week, I thought I'd see if I can find some tire chains. Even Amazon says no go for my size, except for the cheapest, junkiest chain they sell that's only good up to 30mph. :P

Artist,
If you have a pickup truck, get out there with your shovel.  Fill up the back with what you are shoveling out of your drive and street.  Costs nothing and it unloads itself when the time is right.

And it weighs a lot.

I don't share my thoughts because I think it will change the minds of people who think differently.  I share my thoughts to show the people who already think like me that they are not alone.

Yeah, they're saying additionally another 1-2 inches.  Under normal circumstances, I'd say 'meh'?  But right now?  Gack!

Oh well, at least I got out for 30 minutes and broke the cabin fever.

Saw a lot of trucks driving my street with mounds of snow in them.  I'm guessing this is good advice.

Next vehicle I purchase will likely be a larger truck.

I shoveled a groove to drive through and got probably close to 1,500 lbs on the back of the truck.  It sat down about 3 inches from normal.  Much better driving.

I made my jaunt to la fortune and back yesterday, so I knew I could get out.  Got the call this afternoon that they were opening up and needed me to come in, so got out and went.  Didn't have any real problems unitl I got downtown.  Once there, it's pretty much just make sure the street your going to turn down has had some clearing, or at least enough traffic to pack it down.  Of  course I didn't do this, and got onto one road where I had to run a red light to make sure I didn't loose momentum, else I would have gotten stuck.  Made damn sure it was clear before I did though.
