Sometime between 9AM and 11AM this morning I got some mail! I've got no idea how the mail person has managed to get into my neighborhood in that little Grumman LLV with 8 inch wheels, but apparently somebody managed it..

My in-laws visited us yesterday, on their way back to Minnesota after visiting family in Phoenix. Against my advice they decided to divert over to Oklahoma before heading north. They are in their late 60's and I feared for their safety travelling through western OK to OKC then northward to Tulsa. It seemed to me that with the additional 3-4inches of snow yesterday and more cars out on the road that the roads were even worse than before. Nonetheless, they showed little hesitance.

According to them Western OK was no problem and OKC didn't get hit as hard as we did. Either they handled it better or the weather men exaggerated. They said the roads were fine till they got near the end of the turnpike where they started to notice semi's stuck on exit ramps. The closer in they got, the more abandoned vehicles they saw. However, they drove straight to our old town neighborhood and up my 45 degree driveway without a sweat. Their car is a new Honda CRV with some kind of AWD/FWD system and of course, he's used to harsh winters.

He says, "Looks like you had a little snow, eh?" Yeah, compared to Chicago or Minnie. I think we've done pretty well considering it was a record snowfall with equipment designed for average conditions. He agreed, noting that even in Minnie with the tremendous investment in combating the weather, they still struggle to keep moving.

We went to dinner in Brookside cause the roads seemed clearer there than Cherry Street or downtown.

How many folks here are getting mail and trash pick up services? I have not had trash pick up in 9 days (2 dates missed) and no mail since I think Monday.
Someone get Hoss a pacifier.

Funny you mention that, he-who-won't-reply-directly-to-my-posts.

I got my first mail service today since Monday.  1 piece of mail.  I'm sure that's not right.

And the CoT has been informative about trash pickup service.  I'm twice weekly (Monday and Thursday).  Monday obviously was picked up.  Thursday, just as obviously wasn't, as they said it wouldn't be.

But I forget you live in Bixby.

Havent' had any mail since Monday.  Got one package floating around here in Tulsa, but can't seem to make it to my place.  Got another package stuck in Boston, don't see that one going anywhere soon, and since it is the other part of the first package, not too worried about the first.  Trash in the complex hasn't ran, but doesn't matter much anyways since no one wanted to lift the snow covered lid to dumpster and has just been tossing the trash on the ground around it, which I know the trash company won't pick up.

No trash service yesterday, but we got some mail.

However, we go no mail today.

Trust but verify

I can't recall the absence of these services being this bad during the ice storm. Was it? In my neighborhood, we paid to have our streets cleaned and still no services which, by the way, have already been paid for.

I'm just going to guess because they might not be able to get into or out of the landfills because of the amount of snow?

Not sure since there were other trash removal companies picking up in my neighborhood. I wonder if my trash pick up company will charge me when they did not pick up. We'll see I guess.

As I said it was a guess based on if they are still using the landfill off of 46th st north in the old strip pits. Could it be that the ones that were picking up are contracted with the TTE plant?

Thinking about getting into and out of the strip pit site, I know they have the equipment there to clear the access to the site reminded me of the old VW commercial that went "Ever wonder how the snow plow driver gets to work?"

Noticed how the snow in that commercial looked nothing like what we have been putting up with.  If we could drive across the top of it, I don't think we would have no where near as many cars stuck.

If today's cars weighed what a Beetle did, they probably could drive over the top without sinking in! ;)

My first car was a Beetle. I've owned two in my life, both of them 1972's, a regular (my first) and a Super Beetle. Wish I had that '72 Super Beetle sometimes. Never got stuck in the snow with either one.

Our area requires the carrier to go up and down steps and driveways to reach the homes and it is fairly hilly. We have been getting delivery the last few days but he is getting stuck a lot.

We have had no trash pickup since the storm started.
