I have been told not to trust this, but...newson6.com says that we should get 8-12 inches. Significantly higher than 5-10 a couple hours ago. I wouldn't be surrised to see these numbers go up again.

You might trust it more than you think. NWS puts out updates about every three hours. Tv meteos have the luxury of trying to do real time forecasting. Based on their last AFD I would guess that NWS Tulsa will modify their estimates sometime overnight.

Could you give either a link or a web address so I can access these models?

-Thanks

In addition to the forecast model links posted also use srh.noaa.gov/oun.  It is the NWS Norman site.  Go to their graphical forecasts.  Good for any type of weather from snow to severe t-storms.  They also will show you what is coming in the next several days i.e. Potential for winter storms, weather pattern changes, and severe weather outbreaks.  The Storm Prediction Center site spc.noaa.gov is also a good resource for severe weather outlooks.

Don't shoot the messenger.   ;D

Oh, wait, you are probably referring to my weather geekiness.  As a pilot, and Conan knows this, I have to have a rudimentary knowledge of weather.  As fate would have it, I wanted to be in meteorology, but my Mother getting hurt my senior year of highschool nixed that.

Wouldn't change a thing since though.

So later in life I became a trained spotter, and read lots and asked lots of questions.
Nope, wasn't referring to your weather geekiness, it's about that which you bare to this thread.  Anyone know where I can get a flame thrower on the cheap?

I guess you wouldn't want to know that UPS delivered my new red laser sight today. teehee. Ducking and donning Kevlar now.

I saw that, we are at the end of our route so I expect he just ran out of time.

Norman puts out better graphical forecasts, IMO

Maybe.  But they don't cover Tulsa.    ;D

Notice how the forecast has been modified for 8-12 inches?  Never exact science, predicting winter precip... the NAM has scaled back some, but still puts a 12-15" bullseye on the metro.

It would be interesting to re-visit this discussion in 6 months when people are looking at snow and ice removal as "wasteful government spending" that can be cut.

True but what usually happens west of Tulsa (in the NWS Norman coverage area) usually happens in Tulsa a couple hours later.  Granted Norman is the only NWS office that puts out high quality graphicasts and updates them on a regular basis.  Start at the Norman site and then click on Tulsa County for our local forecast..

Someone I work with just got a call from a family member that works at TIA and she was told "their meteorologists" are saying 20 inches for Tulsa proper.

Roll the dice boys....this one could be interesting.

FB post from TIA:

QuoteHere we go again.....Winter Weather Update: Tuesday, Noon - All airlines anticipate flight cancellations as the storm makes its way across the state. Late night Tuesday arrivals will be canceled to avoid leaving airplanes parked in Tulsa overnight. Early morning departures will also be canceled. Contact your airline to confirm your flight status and reschedule if necessary.

FAA meteos plan for the worst case scenario nearly every time.
