I've got a similar switchblade memory as the two of you do.  My first experience with arms control was my stepfather discovering the switchblade I'd bought at a market in Guaymas and making damn sure it didn't get into our luggage coming back to the states.  ;)

It's unfortunate NRA thinks they are too big to sit down at the table or to consider they are becoming nothing more than a money-grubbing monolith, not terribly unlike certain unions I cannot stand.  I'm not so sure they will see another renewal from me, screw the benefits, it's a matter of principle to me.  Just like AARP, I likely won't join, regardless of all the great discounts because I don't agree with all their activist issues and politics.

I'll continue to support the ORA as they actually have a purpose in supporting common sense firearms issues which affect Oklahoma citizens.  The state and local level is where most restrictions are coming from these days anyhow (D.C. anyone?).  Though affiliated with NRA, they are still grass-roots level and yes, they are fighting open carry.  Truly a fine group of sportsmen and women and LEO's.

The problem is that there is no other organization that is as effective AND focused on the topic.  And beyond the political work, they do a tremendous amount of other good stuff that you never get to see in the news anywhere.  And look at what they are fighting against.  Wide variety of attacks on the Second Amendment from many directions.  So, I'm gonna stick with them.

Gun control is the first line of attack, but right behind that is the attacks on hunting and fishing (can you spell PETA?).  Shooting sports of all kinds.  Kid target shooting programs.  Lots of stuff.  PLUS keeping an eye on the Brady Bunch.

Some of their magazines;

So when are we gonna talk about getting rid of those tax breaks for all the 1%'ers??

I don't share my thoughts because I think it will change the minds of people who think differently.  I share my thoughts to show the people who already think like me that they are not alone.

Exactly.  Same implementation and techniques.  Just a much bigger slice of the American Pie.
Those 5 get to ride Harley's while the ones I am talking about get driven around.  Well, except Warren, Bill, and John.  They drive themselves.
