Did Sally Kern Really Say That?

"Rep. Sally Kern, R-Oklahoma City, said minorities earn less than white people because they don't work as hard and have less initiative.

"We have a high percentage of blacks in prison, and that's tragic, but are they in prison just because they are black or because they don't want to study as hard in school? I've taught school, and I saw a lot of people of color who didn't study hard because they said the government would take care of them."

Kern said women earn less than men because "they tend to spend more time at home with their families."

Sorry for using the Kos link, but I refuse to pony up on Tulsa World's paywall.  The bad part is, liberals jump on this to assume that people like Sally Kern speak for the vast majority of Republicans, which is simply not the truth.  Other than her district in OKC, I don't think this woman enjoys much support within the Oklahoma GOP.  Between her and Deweh Bartlet (sic), I think I'm ready to become an IND.

That's so bad even the polar bears are getting in on the facepalm act.

Anything she says doesn't surprise me.

Sally Kern is another symptom of the problems with Oklahoma City.  (Her home district)

Anyone think Jim Inhofe is any different?  He says the same stuff.

I don't share my thoughts because I think it will change the minds of people who think differently.  I share my thoughts to show the people who already think like me that they are not alone.

But more quietly, less frequently, and rarely on tape.

Kern is one of those strange people that in addition to being racist, is sexist against themselves. I think most everyone agrees that it's reasonable that women are paid less after they take years off from working and then re-enter the workforce. They have less experience than many of their male counterparts, after all. What's not reasonable is that women who don't leave the workforce (or even have children!) still get paid somewhat less than their male peers (on average) for the same job. Thankfully, that latter issue seems to be happening less and less, but still exists.

But he hasn't lived in Tulsa for 30 years.

When a democrat appointed state school board member made a joke about a pregnant staffer, Governor Mary Fallin had a press conference denouncing the person and demanding a resignation.

When an republican elected official makes bigoted and sexist statements, nothing.

I expected something.

As the Governor of the state, either denounce the comments or by silence, agree with them.
Power is nothing till you use it.

I don't think he's lived on Planet Earth for at least that long...

Kern, Coburn and Inhofe are why people in the rest of the country think everyone here is batsh*t crazy and dumber than stumps.  Present company excepted, of course.

On the other hand, it does serve to make Michelle Bachman look smarter.

Oh I don't think the country looks at Oklahoma that way. I think they DO look at nutjob California because of this crap:
