Tired of banging his head....and not against just the C Street walls. I knew he didn't really have it in him to solve the budget issues. He's apparently too hard headed. The GOP/Teabaggers will fall on their swords for a fiscal collapse. "A Democratic source familiar with the talks says that Coburn brought new issues to the table at the last minute that prevented the group from coming to a deal and gave the members the indication he was not negotiating in good faith http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/05/17/6662294-coburn-to-gang-of-six-gimme-a-break." Ironic tone of "in good faith"...right.

Tom, don't stop. Quit it, all of it. You're a disgrace. Besides, you've got bigger issues to solve Mr. C Street...He got immunity in the Ensign case. He is the one who arranged the illegal payments to Ensign's girlfriend and her husband, and illegally met with the husband in his new illegal job. That is what this is about.

BTW, did Tom get immunity? No comment? No comment? If he did get immunity, the Senate should censor him.

Amazing. The GOP/Teabaggers are imploding but still willing to take the country down with them over radical right wing demands.  >:(

The word is censure. Censoring Coburn would be a completely different thing.

Coburn: Bend Over Bipartisanship

Asked if there are irreconcilable differences, he said: "I don't know. But I'm not going to keep banging my head for right now. I got other things I wanna do."...

"While there was never significant hope that the gang of six would reach any meaningful budget compromise, Tom "Oath of Hypocrisy" Coburn (R-OK), infamous for activism in C Street, a pseudo-church that covers up Republican adultery and promotes foreign legislation to kill gay people, sabotaged whatever hope there was.  He consumed months of time and group effort pretending to negotiate, when he was stalling, just like Chuck "Snake in the" Grassley (R-IA) did over to stall health care reform."

Unless the money used to pay off the Ensigns was campaign funds or they used influence to get him a federal job or something like that, it's not illegal.  I believe the money came from Ensign's parents.  That's quite different than cheating on taxes or accepting bribes which other Congresspeople have been censured for recently.

You don't get it. Coburn was a conduit. The scheme was to direct the money so it all "appeared" to be kosher. The funds were used for "something like that." "That" being "hush" money. "That" being  immunity to escape any charges of wrong doing.

Did Coburn get immunity? If so, why?

BFD, an ethics violation will only amount to a censure in the first place.  A censure is nothing but a slap on the knuckles.  Obsess about something more worthwhile.

Showing that Senator Ensign and others:
aided and abetted violations of the one-year post-employment contact restriction,
conspired to violate that restriction,
made false statements to the Federal Election Commission,
violated campaign finance laws, and
obstructed the Committee's preliminary inquiry.

"The report provides extensive details of the Coburn's collaboration. He spoke to Hampton's attorney, Daniel Albregts, three times on May 22, 2009, to discuss money Ensign planned to give the Hamptons. Coburn first said he wanted to "help Doug out" because he liked him and felt bad about what had happened, the report says. The Oklahoma Republican asked Albregts to find out what Hampton needed to start over.

According to the report, Albregts called about an hour later, interrupting Coburn from mowing his lawn on a tractor. The lawyer told the senator that Hampton had proposed $8 million to resettle his family and find a new job. Albregts told the Ethics Committee that Coburn countered, calling the figure "absolutely ridiculous." Instead, Coburn reportedly said the Ensigns should purchase the Hampton's home and give them some money to live off of while they looked for new jobs.

In a third call, Albregts proposed payments for the Hamptons of $1.2 million for their home and $1.6 million for relocation, the report says. During that five-minute call, Coburn said he thought that was reasonable and that he would take the request to Ensign. The former senator from Nevada, however, refused to pay that total."
