There are some good opportunities for seeing wildlife closer to town, specifically the Oxley Nature Center in Mohawk Park and the Red Bud Valley Preserve.  Oxley even has blinds. You can expect to see a variety of water birds as well as woodland birds. In spring and fall, there are more migratory birds.  Mohawk Park has a large (probably too large) deer population and a surprising number of wild turkeys.

Too bad to hear the food is not up to par at Lakeside Grill.  Nice location though.  I'd love to see a restaurant eventually open higher up off Lake Rd. between Tall Chief and the dam.  Amazing views from up there.  Something like The Oasis on Lake Travis to take visitors, but with good food.   ;)

Skiatook is a gem, and it took me just over 30 min. from my place in midtown to get there (Tall Chief area, Blackdog and the cliffs are closer to 45 min.).

Is the Oasis the restaurant with the decks?  If so, we were there just a week before the decks caught on fire and burned nearly to the ground.  As I was sitting there eating dinner I had a very odd premonition about those catching fire and how screwed everyone would be.

Awesome bicycle riding abounds out that way as well if you don't mind a few hills.

That's the one.  Definitely a tourist trap with average Mexican food, but the view is pretty awesome especially at sunset.  It's also about the same distance from downtown Austin as downtown Tulsa is to the east end of Lake Skiatook.  You actually have the same set-up off Lake Rd at Skiatook, about 200 ft.+ higher than the lake looking west with hills all around.  I get why there are so many homes getting built there.

Red Bud Valley is fantastic!!  I could write a whole travelog just for it!  Oxley, is really good, too.  Just don't get the big animals (and certainly no exotics) like at prairie and Woolaroc.

Plus you don't get to see this in Skiatook, on the way;

I don't share my thoughts because I think it will change the minds of people who think differently.  I share my thoughts to show the people who already think like me that they are not alone.

Foreigner is coming to Tulsa?

Is it "Urgent?"

No but they are coming to the Zoo Amphitheater in the fall with Journey and Night Ranger.
