QuoteA federal grand jury indicted two-time presidential candidate John Edwards Friday over allegations that he spent $925,000 in campaign donations to cover up his extramarital affair as he was running for the White House in 2008.

Edwards has been charged with six counts, including conspiracy, four counts of illegal campaign contributions and one count of false statements. Edwards will be arraigned in a federal court in Winston-Salem, N.C. later Friday.

He's worth his weight in cigarettes in the big house.  I wonder if they'll make him wear lipstick?

Edwards denies he broke the law.

Quote"There is no question that I have done wrong," he said. "And I take full responsibility for having done wrong. And I will regret for the rest of my life the pain and the harm that I have caused to others. But I did not break the law."

I guess we can all move on then. Cancel the trial.

we vs us

There's really nothing to see here.  In the sense that it's another pol brought down by his errant Weiner, and who broke the law to cover it up.  Seriously.  These guys are a dime a dozen.  Democrat and Republican alike.

The real challenge is to evaluate whether the guy in question -- Republican or Democrat -- deserves to be judged solely on the conduct of his Weiner, or, additionally, by his unrelated conduct in the Senate/HoR/White House.  IMO, Edwards is a more complicated guy.  Also a probable felon.  But I'd argue that we're almost always more than the sum of our crimes.

C'mon.  He pulled a Clinton, but was neither smart or savvy enough to do it right.  He's like a clumsy Clinton with $500 hair and a baby-momma. Chicks are gonna dig him!
