If you had a gun to your head and had to vote for a republican who would it be?

Huntsman.  Though his VP pick might make me eat the shotgun, finally.

It would not be anyone who has declared they are running for President, that's for sure. I'm not willing to vote for anyone who is willing to debase themselves by parroting tea partyist talking points. I'm sure there is some admirable old guard Republican out there who has chosen not to do so, but I don't know who that would be. Most of those sorts are now Democrats. (much to the annoyance of the lefty leftists)

You have 9 announced candidates (drones)...and several stooges on the sideline.

It's going to be Romney/Huntsman. Two Mormons are better than one.

I agree with Nate. The lesser of all evils is still evil.  8)

I will bet you neither Romney nor Huntsman will be the republican nominee for Presdent next year.

You get them and I get the rest of the looney bin.

Loser buy the winners steaks.

Good. Deal. Bachman would be the beneficiary of the Mormon split. We want her. She's not doable.

I vote for people who make pizza

That be the black guy....he may make dough, but his party can't fit the idea into their square thinking.

Wow! Teatown, glad you got all of the standard Liberal sexist, raciest, and religious stereotypes out of the way early in this thread.

For us of a conservative nature the choice is relatively easy.  All we have to do is compare political philosophy, track record, and experience to President Obama.  In each of these comparisons with the 9 players, President Obama scores very poorly.

Even with a majority in the House and Senate for two years, all that could be accomplished was a mountain of old spending from the bottom of David Obey desk drawer wrapped up in a bow labeled "Stimulus", and the hydra that is Obamacare.  Sure there was Cash for Clunkers, and various temporary bailouts, but nothing real or lasting.  All the while, the country slipped deeper and deeper in debt, as the private sector sat still revving its engine.

It seems like we will be delivered a Romney/Bachman ticket.  Plenty of holes for the Starbucks crowd throw stones at, but with enough common sense and business acumen to focus on economic issues and turn the economy around.

We aren't thrilled with messianic figures, slogans or logos.  We don't get thrills up our legs or faint at the sight of our candidates.  In fact, we don't really trust politicians at all.  They are our employees, not our rulers.  A necessary position filled with unfortunate responsibility. Our admiration for the office of President of The United States is as much in pity for its occupant as in honor of their willingness to serve.

As the unofficial leader of Leftern thought on this forum, I would be interested in knowing exactly what you are looking for in a candidate?

I voted for Obama, but if the election were today, I would vote for Huntsman.  But,,, its a loooong time till election day.

Exactly. Why do we have to vote 16 months before the election actually takes place?

At this point, I'd vote for Herman Cain.  He's black enough to be president.  (Before anyone tears into me about a racist comment, anyone remember the comment by DNC handlers that Obama was white enough?)  Seriously.  I like his business acumen, he doesn't invoke his religion at every turn, and he understands what it takes to inspire confidence in business since he's actually hired and fired people.

I'd seriously love to see where the vote would go if black America realizes nothing has improved for them under the Obama administration.  It might seriously be a turning point in the GOP sending a message of self-empowerment rather than more chump change being thrown at them for their vote.

As far as the reality of the ticket, I say Romney and he will pull a wild card out of the House or Senate for a running mate.  The ONLY way I could see him picking Bachman for a running mate is A) if her numbers are still as good in the primaries as her polling was in Iowa or B) He intends to throw the WH back to Obama for four more years to ensure a complete GOP shellacking in 2016 of the WH and both houses of legislature.
