I am not going to go as far as Beck, but I was kind of taken aback when one of the young people at this camp said they ran towards the "policeman" who ended up being the murderer, because they thought it was some sort of drill.  I couldn't help but think "What kind of political camp has drills that would involve uniformed police officers?  What kind of political party has youth camps and what do they teach there?   I do not want to for a moment diminish the atrocity that has happened, but at the same time I couldn't help but wonder about this youth camp thing.

I remember when I was a little boy in school and saying the Pledge of Allegance.  I also remember being taught that when you make a promise, you should mean it, that a promise is a serious, important thing.  We had also just learned about Ann Frank and I remember hearing how Germany was a bad country at that time.  I was a good little kid and always wanted to do the right thing, but I remember having to say the Pledge of Allegance, and feeling bad about it.  I was afraid not to for I knew I would get in trouble, but that in itself made me fear even more.  When your a little kid, the world can seem scary at times.  How could I pledge allegance, make a promise, to this flag, this country when I didn't even really know anything about it?  What if it were a bad country, how was I to know being so little and just learning.  I knew there were lots of countries in the world, but didn't know anything about them. How was I to know if this one was one I could and should pledge allegance to?  But again, it did feel scary that I, who couldn't possibly know enough to make that kind of descision, HAD to pledge allegance to this one and if I didn't, the adults would hit me or spank me, or punish me in some other way for not doing it. What kind of country was that?  Didn't feel right at all.

Never heard of the Young Republicans, eh? (I single them out for the humor value, not because they're particularly disgusting or anything)

From Wikipedia:

In 1940 the Supreme Court, in Minersville School District v. Gobitis, ruled that students in public schools, including the respondents in that case, Jehovah's Witnesses who considered the flag salute to be idolatry, could be compelled to swear the Pledge. A rash of mob violence and intimidation against Jehovah's Witnesses followed the ruling. In 1943 the Supreme Court reversed its decision, ruling in West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette that public school students are not required to say the Pledge, concluding that "compulsory unification of opinion" violates the First Amendment.[10] In a later opinion, the Court held that students are also not required to stand for the Pledge

We have church camps here, band camps, Boy Scout camps, and even computer camps. The kids are going because their parents want them to go. It has more to do with the children's future, so it shouldn't be too surprising that a political party would have a camp for their well-connected party members.

Always remember --- Glen Beck is only two Xanax away from playing with his own poop.

May you live in interesting times.

Above all else, we have teaching tolerance camps. These would be the one's in the USA in need of more contributions to insure protection from evil as well as funding for expansion!

Most young Repiglicans have matured.....see what inbreeding brings.... the Far Right, both secular and sectarian, have amped up the fanatacism over the past three or four decades to the point where moderation has become toxic. We are Becked.

I don't believe that name calling is conducive to good discourse.  On most discussion boards its forbidden for it does not add anything positive to the conversation, quite the contrary, it detracts, degrades and takes away from it.

And finally, there's victim camps for the overly-emotional liberals.  ;D

Hey,

Guess what I just read about. There's a political group that's holding summer camps all over the nation. They have a fun logo too:

They have camps for kids this summer all over including places like:
Florida:

Utah:
http://www.utahpatriotcamp.com/home
Colorado:

There is a Tulsa chapter, but it doesn't look like we have a camp for kids yet.
http://tulsa912project.com/

It's all part of the 9-12 Project. What is that you ask? It's a conservative non-partisan political action group THAT WAS STARTED BY GLENN FRIGGING BECK

That's right, Glenn Beck has his own political camps for kids with the fun uplifting motto "Unite or Die". But he's accusing the kids in Norway that were the victims of a deadly and vicious right wing terrorist attack and it's those kids that are like the Hitler Youth.

Glennn Beck is just an unbelievable scum bag.

I think Beck must eat lunch with Michael Del Giorno on a regular basis.  They seem to have the same paranoid delusion syndrome.
