I was speaking to one of the campaigners this morning, and he mentioned that the city hall email filter blocks any messages with certain keywords, like "economy", "housing" or "development".
You know, the real egregious stuff that shouldnt darken the doorsteps of elected officials.

My question is why would a campaigner even admit to this knowing full well the smile storm it would create?  I don't doubt the 'truthiness' of the claim, but it makes one wonder.

Put me in the "I doubt it" column. The city gov't I used to work for did not do that, and all emails are a matter of public record and could be requested by anyone about anyone that worked for the town. The only thing they did was have a 90 day retention policy which was the minimum allowed by the state of AZ. Even if the email was deleted, it was still housed on the server for 90 days.

I tried it last winter, but even got a reply from my local councilor. I didn't include any of the keywords listed above, but it was a critical email accusing the city of contemplating an action that would have been unconstitutional. My councilor's reply stuck to his guns, but cooler heads prevailed elsewhere.  Problem solved, or rather the symptom of the problem solved.

I have sent many, many e-mails to many councilors. I usually get responses.

I will have to try using those words and see what happens.

I think I have used all of those words many many times and I have never failed to receive a response from my counselor.  I typically got a response in less than an hour.  Always impressed me.

Perhaps it's not the filters, perhaps it is your councilor.

The couple of times I have sent emails to my councilor I have always received a timely answer.
