I'm sure that some of the TNF members have heard about the pop-up shopping district in the deco district.  I went down and did some Christmas shopping tonight.  I really think that people should check it out.  It's all local companies mist of whom make their own products or retail local crafts.  I had a really great time.  If you get a chance, by all means check it out.  Follow t with a crepe at mods and beer at elite and have a night downtown.

Also, when you go in the candy store check out the white grapefruit gummies.  Killer.

I am going to check it out this weekend.  Spend your money locally as much as  possible.

FMC and I are planning on doing as much local shopping as possible this year.  One good suggestion for the foodie in your life is Mecca Coffee or Spiceology in The Farm.  We went into Spiceology the other day and they've got a great selection of items.  We've decided to build coffee, spice, and treat baskets for our mothers this Christmas as they are both really hard to buy for but love to spend time in the kitchen.  I'm pretty anxious to see what sort of goodies we can find in the pop up shops to add to the baskets.

I can't wait to see the basket you got for me.

We tried to go to Great Harvest in the Farm last weekend and there was a sign they are closed.  Sadness.  Haven't been there in a while, and that may be the problem - a lot of people not going there in a while.

Also, the lights should be made permanent and perhaps even extended all the way down boston to 6th.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!

Say it with me....Christmas lights, and again, Christmas lights. If they're up all the time it will completely kill the spirit around Christmas. They wouldn't be any kind of novelty.

Freemont Street?

I have stopped by the pop up shopping a few times - bought xmas cards at the Art Deco Musuem, some soap, and a couple other little things.  Great idea.  Neat local companies.  Carolers singing.  People coming and going...  a good time was had by all.

I disagree.  Often times lights are strung between buildings in entertainment districts.

Sorry about that but just had to pass it on.

You know the May Rooms??  I used to know some of the girls that lived there, once upon a time.  They would visit a company I worked at nearby.  How about that...it's a small world!

I think I know of the May Rooms... but then, if I do, I'm pretty sure I learned of em from on TNF

They were on 1st street just west of Elgin, on the south side of the street.  Just west of El Guapo's.  Today it is a vacant lot next to the alley.  Google earth shows it clearly.

Logan's Concession used to be next door.  Sold commercial kitchen equipment, and also had a fountain drink setup so you could go in and get a fountain drink for a quarter - large!  BEST drinks ever!  They set the mix to just a little bit more concentrated, but not too much, more as an advertising thing than trying to get rich off of it.  Also, had popcorn - I think it was free, if memory serves.  It was fantastic to go by on a break in the afternoon and get a bag of popcorn and those unbelievable drinks!!

May Rooms was interesting, too.
