Once the judging and awards are done, the teams hit the road.  By that time we've all been up for over 24+ hours and are either happy or very sad!
Friday night and Saturday morning/noon that's just the way it works.

Pretty well what I figured as far as the teams wanting to get the hell out of Dodge.  Just seems like a missed entertainment and revenue opportunity by not having something else going on into the evening after the teams move out for a well-deserved rest.  The BD lends itself to being very festival friendly on the weekends.  Who would someone mention this to, Blake? Ken Busby?

There was a big party Friday night put on by Back Alley BBQ with live music and all that was I think $50 per couple with food, drinks and everything.  For most KCBS bbq events if there is a big party it takes place on Friday nights.

Because of the location, the Friday night party tended to spill out into the streets and the teams actually didn't mind, even though the 11pm quite-time rule was basically ignored.  We traveled around talking to other teams until about 1am and everyone was having a good time.

We were right in front of The Max and had a blast talking with all the hipsters that walked over asking why we were there, and what we were smokin'.  There were several groups of roving-drunk-girls that came by begging for meat.  Unfortunately, none of our meat was available.

That happens to me all the time.

I enjoyed walking around Friday evening visiting with the teams and then being able to stop in at Juniper for an adult beverage and an appetizer.

I did the early shift and really enjoyed. Did the BBQ tasting, when it first opened. Great food and great environment. I then went to the beer fest. Going early was great. People weren't sloppy, yet, and the lines were short. I enjoyed talking to all the brewers. I wish I had paced myself better. I was done by 4pm. I hope they keep these events next to each other in the future.

Side question, can you get a DUI on a bicycle?

Probably not if you are sober.

Seriously, if bicyclists are going to demand the same rights as motorists, they should have the same responsibilities.

Yes.  I had a friend in Stillwater that achieved this.

If you can get a DUI on a riding lawn mower or a powerized bar stool. I'm sure a bicycle is fair game also.
Changing opinions one mistake at a time.

Public intox, I suspect.

I learned my lesson riding home from Crybaby Hill back in June, I earned a nice big thigh bruise when I thought it was a great idea to go ripping across the field behind Toni's Flowers at 36th & Harvard on the way home and hit a hole.  Fortunately, it was on my old tank bike.  I don't think you could do anything to bend those heavy old sleds.

Close!  Actually he used to be one of my fellow hippy-scumbag friends that went to all of the Dead shows with us back in the eighties.  Invented some bizarre golf-swing training device after college and now he's a tax payer.  Kinda funny too, because I don't remember him ever even playing golf.  He was basically that guy that always crashed on your sofa. Back in the 90s he actually rode his bike from Houston to Canada just because he didn't have anything else to do for a summer.  Took a camera and came back with loads of amazing photos. Ran into him a couple of years ago.  He's traded his bike for a Range Rover.  Sad how we all grow up and grow old.

I know several big time wake and bakes from HS who have become fabulously wealthy in the software and/or business services industries and are straight family guys now.

I never figured any of them would have the brain cells left to do something like that nor the sperm motility to procreate.
