A District of Columbia police officer came under investigation for threatening comments he was accused of making about first lady Michelle Obama, though police are still trying to figure out exactly what was said, Police Chief Cathy Lanier said Friday.
Authorities have not identified the officer, a 17-year department veteran who has been placed on paid desk duty. He had been assigned to a unit that provides a motor escort for the White House and other dignitaries.

Lanier said the officer is accused of making a threat about the first lady — a comment overheard by another officer and then reported to a superior. The department's internal affairs division and the U.S. Secret Service are investigating the remarks and taking statements from officers who heard them.

The Washington Post cited anonymous police officials in reporting that the officer allegedly told colleagues over breakfast at a restaurant that he would shoot the first lady and then showed a photo on his mobile phone of a gun he would use. He may also have used a phone application that makes the sound of gunfire, the newspaper reported.

To us, it doesn't matter, Michael.  There isn't a gay or straight way of doing law enforcement - the purpose of the executive branch.  The fundies will be up in arms, and the tea party types....well, they're not known for rational behavior either.

Still, it could be an interesting contest.  The uber-right doesn't like or trust Mitt to begin with, and if he adds a gay, pro-choice black woman as VP, look for them to split from the Republican party after he loses.

Oh, The Villages. The only retirement community I've ever had the pleasure of visiting that has worse traffic than most major cities. I gather it's more tolerable if you have a golf cart. Also, their architectural review committee needs to have their eyes examined.

It's just amazing how when conservatives start a conversation about a candidate it relates to their experience and expertise, and when liberals engage in that same conversation it immediately becomes a discussion of some group dynamic such as sex, sexual preference, racial makeup, and academic credentials. Experience and track record is the last thing they consider.
