Hoss. That was great. The saving a spot in line for the parents is hilarious.

And Harmony(I had to shorten it)I had a bag phone that never left my work truck in 93. And I'm pretty sure the service wasn't AT&T. So I am taking the 24 year comment as sarcasm. And by the way, If I could get my old bag phone back. I would do it like yesterday. That thing would get out in flea spick America.(is that racist?)

How much a minute?

My first cell phone was mid-90's which was Southwestern Bell Wireless.  If I recall correctly, it was then AT&T Wireless, then Cingular, now back to AT&T.  Never changed my account, except to change numbers from a 405 to 918 when I moved to Tulsa.

You are absolutly right. My Monthly bills would run from 450 to 800 dollars. Crazy money for the great service and being the Joneses.

A friend would carry his father's bag phone around to look cool.  He'd never use it.  Just carry it around to attract chicks.  It was the late 80's.

SBMS got merged with SBC and BellSouth's other US-based wireless assets to create Cingular in 2000 or 2001. The JV bought AT&T Wireless a few years later (with BellSouth selling off a bunch of their international portfolio to pay for their 40% share) and integrated it into Cingular. SBC then bought AT&T the long distance company, renaming themselves at&t. Not long after that, SBC bought BellSouth, thus gaining 100% control of the Cingular JV, which they promptly renamed at&t.

Harmony?  You mean me??

No, 24 years wasn't sarcasm...it was history.  Actually, it was Cingular for much of that time until the re-merge.

I had the phone bag at US Cell, and would use it now if I could - it had great range and operation - just didn't "do" much - except exactly what I wanted it to do - make phone calls.  I ran across the thing about 6 months ago while looking through a closet for something else.  Ahhhh...the memories....

I don't share my thoughts because I think it will change the minds of people who think differently.  I share my thoughts to show the people who already think like me that they are not alone.

The days of analog cellular.
You could actually understand the person on the other end.
Id be curious if you could even get a network to respond to one nowadays.

...and of course, having a mobile phone meant you were a drug dealer....
