"So he brandished a gun, never shot anyone or anything right?"  --TeeDub, 17 Feb 2018.

I don't share my thoughts because I think it will change the minds of people who think differently.  I share my thoughts to show the people who already think like me that they are not alone.

I sympathize.  I know reality has to be hard for you....

Oh. I hadn't realized you agreed we are in the midst of a huge recovery...And on the subject, could someone tell me what Obama's policy is responsible for this "recovery" we are in--I mean, other than the record numbers on food stamps which we all know is an economic stimulus. :P

I guess I would take exception to the word 'huge', but when you compare losing 800,000 a month to gaining 200,000 a month, well that ain't exactly chopped liver.  And as so often, something you already do know....

And you personally are doing the best of your life - even better than before the collapse - so tough to understand why you would protest so much....it's the old 'crocodile tear' thing, I guess.

Stock market double.  Manufacturing growing at 4 times the pace under Bush.  Which would mean much more hiring if so many of these CEO's couldn't get away with loading up their existing employees by 25% or 50% more to do.  But that will cycle through, and as they lose people to competitors who are more farsighted, hiring will grow.  After the election - no matter who wins - hiring is going up.

Yep.  Can always be better, but nothing but bad times here....right?

And this remains:  "And on the subject, could someone tell me what Obama's policy is responsible for this "recovery" we are in". Let's hear what Obama has done to improve the economy.

As for me, I didn't get nailed in this recession. But I sure have seen those that have, and if you talk to those people they are asking the same questions I am. As should you and everyone.

And this remains:  "And on the subject, could someone tell me what Obama's policy is responsible for this "recovery" we are in". Let's hear what Obama has done to improve the economy.

The stimulus. Unemployment extensions. The temporary payroll tax cut. The auto bailout. Those and TARP likely prevented the collapse from being much worse than it would otherwise have been, based on recoveries from previous systemic crises. The recovery stalled when Republicans threw that debt ceiling bomb into the room and obstinately refuse to provide any more money for recovery measures to make up for the two missing factors that are present in most recoveries but have heretofore been relatively limited in this one: Housing and Exports.

Exports are great relative to the 2001 recession, but compared to earlier ones, the recovery has been worse than average, largely due to the even poorer economic conditions in much of the rest of the world combined with the flight to safety that has been keeping the dollar relatively high.

Before you pooh pooh the idea that the stimulus helped, go find one of the many versions of the Obama team's 2009 stimulus graph with actual unemployment also plotted. Then note that if you adjust the peak to match the actual unemployment peak, it's nearly spot on. The effect was there, but the starting point was much worse than was apparent at the time, so the prediction was a bust. That in no way indicates a failure of the policy to perform.

If you want to pump out a sump you think is filled with 250 gallons of water in half an hour and thus use a 500 gph pump, it is in no way a failure of the pump if it takes an hour to pump out what turns out to actually be 500 gallons. Sadly, we in effect decided to turn the pump off at the 30 minute mark and complain that the bucking pump didn't work because we've still got 250 gallons of water in the damn sump.

There's a reason both Republicans and Democrats have supported stimulus legislation in the past. There's a reason even Paul Ryan requested stimulus money for his district. It works, whether it pleases you ideologically or not.

I do ask those questions - about how we could lose so many jobs by shipping them overseas - and have answered - it is due to the job export policies of the last 3 decades.  And it is due to the efforts of BOTH sides.  As I have said over and over.

As for the policies - you have heard it.  You have understood it.  You reject reality, 'cause it doesn't fit your paradigm of The Script - and that will never allow you to openly admit the reality.  It has been answered over and over - most recently, very well by nathan just previous to this.  Never a rational, thought out, reasoned reply - just a continued mouthing of The Script.

We have a well known, well documented track record of recession/recovery in this country since the '30s.  The big problem with this one - and it is the ONLY one we have done this with...ever - is the fact that we did not pursue the same tax policy that ALL the previous cycles pursued.  And that was started in Bush's term, and continued in Obama's - done in Bush's term due to a lack of brains, and continued in Obama's due to a lack of will.

You ignore the effects of turning a 250 billion surplus into a 250 billion deficit.  You fixate on the record number of food stamp recipients, while ignoring the facts of how they become eligible.  You obsess about people not paying taxes (even though the reality is VERY different), while ignoring the reasons behind the appearance.  You appear to adhere (through your Romney support) to the idea that 47% - the lowest income workers and retired and military - are slackers not worthy of consideration.  (And yes, Romney did say what he meant.)

Charity president unhappy about Paul Ryan soup kitchen 'photo op'

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/election-2012/wp/2012/10/15/charity-president-unhappy-about-paul-ryan-soup-kitchen-photo-op/

QuoteThe head of a northeast Ohio charity says that the Romney campaign last week "ramrodded their way" into the group's Youngstown soup kitchen so that GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan could get his picture taken washing dishes in the dining hall.

Brian J. Antal, president of the Mahoning County St. Vincent De Paul Society, said that he was not contacted by the Romney campaign ahead of the Saturday morning visit by Ryan, who stopped by the soup kitchen after a town hall at Youngstown State University.

"We're a faith-based organization; we are apolitical because the majority of our funding is from private donations," Antal said in a phone interview Monday afternoon. "It's strictly in our bylaws not to do it. They showed up there, and they did not have permission. They got one of the volunteers to open up the doors."

He added: "The photo-op they did wasn't even accurate. He did nothing. He just came in here to get his picture taken at the dining hall."

Ryan had stopped by the soup kitchen for about 15 minutes on his way to the airport after his Saturday morning town hall in Youngstown. By the time he arrived, the food had already been served, the patrons had left, and the hall had been cleaned.

Upon entering the soup kitchen, Ryan, his wife and three young children greeted and thanked several volunteers, then donned white aprons and offered to clean some dishes. Photographers snapped photos and TV cameras shot footage of Ryan and his family washing pots and pans that did not appear to be dirty.

According to a Romney aide not authorized to speak publicly about the event, the campaign followed its usual protocol for impromptu, on-the-road stops by candidates: A staffer was dispatched to the St. Vincent De Paul Society ahead of Ryan's visit Saturday morning and spoke with a woman in charge on site, who said that it would be fine for the congressman to stop by. The campaign did not contact Antal ahead of the visit.

The woman on site told the Romney staffer that some of the volunteers had already left, but that most were happy to remain until Ryan arrived, according to the aide. After Ryan left the soup kitchen, the woman approached a campaign staffer and expressed gratitude for Ryan's visit, the aide said.

Chris Maloney, Ohio communications director for the Romney campaign, said that the visit by Ryan had been intended to highlight the work of the soup kitchen volunteers.

"Our campaign and Congressman Ryan were pleased to bring attention to the meaningful charitable contributions the St. Vincent De Paul Society makes to people in need," Maloney said.
Antal, a self-described independent voter, said that he "can't fault my volunteers" for letting the campaign in but said that the campaign  "didn't go through the proper channels."

He noted that the soup kitchen relies on funding from private individuals who might reconsider their support if it appears that the charity is favoring one political candidate over another.

"I can't afford to lose funding from these private individuals," he said. "If this was the Democrats, I'd have the same exact problem."

He added that the incident had caused him "all kinds of grief" and that regardless of whether Ryan had intended to serve food to patrons or wash dishes, he would not have allowed the visit to take place.
"Had they asked for permission, it wouldn't have been granted. ... But I certainly wouldn't have let him wash clean pans, and then take a picture," Antal said.

The "Big Bird Lie".  One side is deceiving us about a Muppet and the other is deceiving us about wanting to help the poor and underprivileged.

So there's a poo fight between the Obama-leaning director of the soup kitchen and the Romney-leaning anonymous woman who allowed them in.  ::)

Obama has a scrap book full of photo ops like this, including the stunt of flying AF-1 around NYC at a hefty cost to tax payers.

Hey look, hoping that anything can keep the loons on the conservative side of the spectrum farther from the ability to change laws that effect me.
