I suspect it would be a small percentage of merchants who will do this.  Since credit and debit cards account for the majority of transactions, pricing on merchandise already reflects a cost to cover merchant fees.

Yes, you simply up prices across the board.  We are already dealing with clients who have planned this in anticipation.

Planned to increase prices because they can now charge credit card surcharges?  ???

It's already figured into the price.  The credit card companies charge us when customers use their cards and 90% or more of our customers use a credit/check card.  So we have to figure that into the cost just like we do the cost of having our merchandise shipped to us.  The only difference this could make is that we might be able to "give a discount" for those who use cash or check.  Nobody would get charged more, some might be charged less though if we want to bother with it.  But then "posting it" would likely be seen by the 90% as them paying more, and if they didn't have cash in hand or a check they may pause in purchasing, soooo.... don't really think I would bother unless it became standard practice.

The Spec's Liquor chain in Texas has a 5% cash/debit discount.

Spec's is crafty, too.  They present you with the discounted amount as your total.  When you go to pay with credit they inform you that it will be 5% more.  They get around the law banning them from charging a surcharge in Texas by offering it as a discount, but when the consumer hear's that the price will be 5% more they will be inclinded to use cash/debit card.
