AA new livery

I took a few photos at a display featuring AA's first 737 in the new paint job.  It was shiny.  The employees present - most of who lost wages, vacation, sick days, retirement funding and more - demonstrated an outpouring of enthusiasm that spread across the hangar floor, becoming nearly ankle deep in places.  To call it underwhelming would be far too gracious.  A company that's in bankruptcy is planning to spend millions changing its corporate logo.  It's the New Coke of the airline industry.

I'm particularly fond of the irony of the "Winning Together" banner over on the left.

May you live in interesting times.

The timing was poor, to say the least.  Management is obviously in la-la land.

When have they not been over at AA?

The new logo is kind of non-descript to me.  It's not bad but it doesn't really say airplane or airline.  I can understand losing the polished aluminum look with so many components being composite now.

Running the "American" through the windows doesn't do anything favorable for me either.  It just makes it difficult to read.

I actually like the new logo, but agree that reinventing marketing imagery is unwise based on their current problems.  The primary issue with AA and other airlines is related to service delivery, not marketing and graphics.

My favorite airlines logo was actually this one.

Too bad that deal ended up being a mess for Tulsa.

I liked it too.  I flew them once to Albuquerque.  Those old Dornier 328jets were about as loud as any I've ever been in.

You know that essentially to come into creation, Great Plains bought the remnants of Ozark Airlines?  Their callsign with ATC remained Ozark until their dying day here in Tulsa.

To be clear the "Ozark" that became Great Plains was the new Ozark, not the original Ozark of white planes with green logos based in St. Louis.  (The original Ozark merged with TWA circa 1986.)

Correct, but they were still calling themselves 'Ozark' on the ATC wire up until GP shuttered.

Guess you'd have to listen/know Tulsa ATC to know that.

It's not bad. My favorite airline was Braniff, anyone remember them? They had multi-colored aircraft- each plane was a different color- and they were cheap. They had charter flights out of D/FW non-stop to Las Vegas Nevada. This was in the mid-1980's. The hub may have been in D/FW but not sure.

Hughes AirWest flew all yellow DC-9's.  They called themselves "The Top Banana In The West"
