My viewpoint is best summarized as such:

The street name makes me feel bad.  And you should feel bad.  It needs changed/fixed/repaired (reparation)
1 (4.2%)
If it ain't broke, why fix it
10 (41.7%)
The street name is historical (according to an article that doesn't cite any references)..  It serves to remind us of dark times.. that we don't hope to repeat
5 (20.8%)
The street name is historical (according to an article that doesn't cite any references)..  It serves to remind us of dark times.. that we don't hope to repeat...  Change the sign.. we'll remember via other methods (I promise) (also reparation)
1 (4.2%)
I want the street's name changed for reasons completely unrelated to the controversy
1 (4.2%)
I don't care one way or the other (but this sure seems like a waste of time that could be spent on other issues)
6 (25%)

May 16, 2013 (Tulsa, Okla.) – In celebration of Sir Paul McCartney's return to the BOK Center May 29 and 30, several downtown streets surrounding the BOK Center were temporarily renamed in his honor. The street names, representing song titles from the Beatles, include Abbey Road (3rd Street), Penny Lane (Denver Ave.), Blackbird Blvd (1st Street) and All Together Crossing (Frisco).

Oops.
It's definitely well documented that Penny Lane is named after James Penny, an 18th-century slave trader.
Efforts to rename Penny Lane and streets named after slave traders have always been criticized for trying to "airbrush" history.

As an outside observer looking at "Penny Lane"
Should Liverpool and/or England rename it?

Yes, Brady was originally named after someone of questionable repute..   But now the street and district transcend any single person.   Changing the name accomplishes nothing..   it would just add pressure and momentum for the Brady theater and the district to rename.

History:
the theater opened in 1914 and was known as "Convention Hall"
1952 : renamed to "Tulsa Municipal Theater"
1977 : Under ownership of Peter Mayo, it was renamed Brady theater (Brady died in 1925)

Had no idea.   I wish I did.  I hated Val Young's guts...with his wee beady eyes.

Well, he's a girl, so....

I don't share my thoughts because I think it will change the minds of people who think differently.  I share my thoughts to show the people who already think like me that they are not alone.

The Convention Hall has it's own history as a makeshift prison during the riot.

I posted essentially the same poll to Reddit
http://www.wepolls.com/p/17342601/How-do-you-feel-about-renaming-Brady-street

It's gotten 57 votes  (no way to determine unique users)
It's also been rightfully criticized for the biased options..    I forgot how much sarcasm had worked into our debate at that point.

If they want to rename the streets then they need to use the official plat map of the city of Tulsa street names which were numbers. Archer should be renamed 1st street and Brady should be renamed 2nd street and so on.  Not some bogus and questionable document someone so conveniently found.
