I've noticed they have been removing the old sign from the building.  Anyone know what is going on there?

Sounds like they are removing the old sign.

Or a sign removal project of some kind to remove the sign so the sign isn't there so another sign can be put up but it could be a sign replacement of some sort designed to replace the sign that was replaced during a previous sign replacement project so they have a replaceable sign in place for future replacement through a funded sign replacement project.

Interesting it would be removed. It is my understanding that another sign can't go up there by city ordinance. The existing sign was grandfathered in.

Which typically means they would only be allowed to maintain the sign or restore it to it's original condition.   Not change it to say "First United Methodist," "widget co" or whatever.   I could be wrong.

The sign itself weighed 20,000 pounds and the pylon weighed 8,800 pounds. That weight and the additional weight of the support beams added nearly 30,000 pounds to the top of the building.

So there shouldn't be any structural problems with putting one hell of a party spot on the roof there then.

I went up in this building once.  The downtown views were outstanding.  People would pay good money to rent or own condos in this building.  *hint hint*
