The president has decided to work with congress. Has he hired Romney as an advisor?  This is a very good idea, and one that has been proposed a zillion times since 2008.  It likely would have ended the recession.  I guess it just takes some time to sink in.

"As part of his efforts to focus Washington on the middle class, today in Tennessee the president will call on Washington to work on a grand bargain focused on middle-class jobs by pairing reform of the business tax code with a significant investment in middle-class jobs," Obama senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer said.

President Obama wants to cut the corporate tax rate of 35 percent down to 28 percent and give manufacturers a preferred rate of 25 percent.

I like the new President Obama.  4 more years! 4 more years!  4 more years!

You're like the guy who tells his wife, "Your butt doesn't look as big in the blue dress, honey".

btw, what is Costco going to do to Walmart, Target, Office Depot and all the other slave wage employers here in town? I hear they pay higher wages to attract the better workers and then actually treat them as valued assets to their company. Bound to create havoc and recession when they arrive since everyone knows raising pay of these low level workers will simply be passed on or result in layoffs. :P
onward...through the fog

It's ODS, AM.  You didn't see this from him for the eight years Bush 43 was in office.

Gasp isn't even bright enough to read and understand the article that while Obama is recommending a cut to the nominal corporate tax rate, he is at the same time is asking for "reform" that would actually raise the effective tax rate to fund a new jobs program.

John Boehner's come out agin' it.

You don't say. Obama wants to end special corporate tax breaks that has some of the biggest and most profitable companies paying little to no income tax and the big business lapdog is against it..

Of course in the real world If Obama backed a bill that was written by the right Boner and company would still scream "COMMUNIST!"

Wait, that's exactly what happened with Romneycare, I mean Obamacare.

QuotePresident Barack Obama will offer Republicans a new "grand bargain" on taxes and job creation—an attempt to find some common ground while a bigger deal to reduce the deficit is stalled.

Initial reaction from Capitol Hill Republicans was chilly. A spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner said that the expected proposal is "leaving small businesses and American families behind."

Obama has dropped his insistence that business-tax reform be coupled with an overhaul of individual taxes. In a speech on Tuesday afternoon, he'll outline plans for a corporate overhaul, conditioned on investments in jobs programs.

Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell in a floor speech on Tuesday said Obama's plans could actually hurt small businesses, and would be a "serious blow" to the bipartisan efforts at comprehensive tax reform underway in Congress now.

Early comments from Republicans indicate that they won't accept de-linking an individual and corporate overhaul. On issues like immigration — in the House, at least — lawmakers have shown a willingness to go piece by piece in place of a sweeping bill.

But if Obama was hoping to go piecemeal with tax reform he's getting a lot of pushback so far.

You are funny.  He wants to reform the depreciation in section 179 of the tax code.  It was set to expire in 2011 but they kept renewing it.  It allows businesses to depreciate capital expenditures the very first year, that they would normally depreciate over several years.  Shuffling the deck, not increasing taxes.  It creates an instant one-time boost in revenue.

One of the ways I close deals with companies is to illustrate how they can take advantage of the Section 179 the first year.  It's very attractive because if they are buying $200K in software from me, and financing it through a structured dollar buyout lease, their first year deduction basically makes their payments for the first year.

I am in total agreement that this convention is ready to expire.  Companies continue to make significant capital investment but lack the confidence to make investment in human capital, largely because of the uncertainty posed by the threat of increased taxes and benefits costs.  This is an excellent trade!  Excellent!

Sure, it will put a little dent in my closing rate (only about 15% of my clients opt to finance) but it's what's best for the economy, and in the long run if the economy improves than business improves for everyone.

Just because you don't have any friends don't take it out on those of us who do.   ;D

Is anyone else getting fatigued with the economy issues? I thought we were in recovery. My investments are doing pretty well, got steady flow of work, making purchases etc.

Costco's are...

WalMart...somewhat less.  But then, there was always Albertson's as a bad example - worse than any of the above mentioned.

I don't share my thoughts because I think it will change the minds of people who think differently.  I share my thoughts to show the people who already think like me that they are not alone.

A cousin of mine worked in the meat dept as a butcher back in the early 80s (Albertson's/AlphaBeta).  He might chime in about that.

Tony Casillas' mother also worked at the one on 21st/Memorial at the same time.  Right about the time Tony was at EC.

I read this as a "No" for Obama's jobs push.

QuotePresident Obama,

Welcome to Chattanooga, one of hundreds of cities throughout this great nation struggling to succeed in spite of your foolish policies that limit job creation, stifle economic growth and suffocate the entrepreneurial spirit.

Forgive us if you are not greeted with the same level of Southern hospitality that our area usually bestows on its distinguished guests. You see, we understand you are in town to share your umpteenth different job creation plan during your time in office. If it works as well as your other job creation programs, then thanks, but no thanks. We'd prefer you keep it to yourself.

That's because your jobs creation plans so far have included a ridiculous government spending spree and punitive tax increase on job creators that were passed, as well as a minimum wage increase that, thankfully, was not. Economists — and regular folks with a basic understanding of math — understand that these are three of the most damaging policies imaginable when a country is mired in unemployment and starving for job growth.

Even though 64 percent of Chattanooga respondents said they would rather you hadn't chosen to visit our fair city, according to a survey on the Times Free Press website, it's probably good that you're here. It will give you an opportunity to see the failure of your most comprehensive jobs plan to date, the disastrous stimulus scheme, up close and personal.
