Quiet Zone Change?

What has happened at the Elgin crossing that about 1/2 the trains now blow their horns?
I would be fuming if I lived in the new lofts on Archer.

I noticed the same thing last week. What's going on?

Ben

I have noticed that as well. I was actually pulling up to that intersection in my car the other day when the gates started coming down. I watched somebody on foot decide to run across in front of the train (i thought i was going to see somebody get hit). As soon as his body language showed he was going to go across the train gave a long, loud blast from its horn.

I wonder if its possible that the increase in the number of trains blowing their horn is a result of more people in the area moving between the blue dome and greenwood/brady? More people means more people trying to beat trains, so more warning horns from the engineers?

Yeah...They still blow if there is someone or something in the right of way, e.g. a pedestrian.  So, if you are a pedestrian and the train is coming, don't cross the tracks please.

Also, I do wish this new packages had matching funds for an extension of the quiet zone.  Seems like an appropriate transportation based expense.

Many of the switching engines that move about the city are remote controlled, where no one is aboard.
Im guessing there is some sort of live camera, but still it almost seems as if we are just waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I believe if the train is headed towards Evans Finntube, there are no quad gates at the Archer crossing, so they have to sound their horns. Same with the SE spur with crossing 1st and 2nd. (This is the one that eventually ends up on the BA)
