Too delicious!

Not sure "delicious" is a term I would use when referring to Dewey.  :P

Over a Month ago. I started thinking. What the Hell is she doing? In my opinion she had him beat. My thought was just stand back and let Dewey be Dewey. Let the man implode on his own.

Then the negative ads start to hit the airways. And not just a little. It was everywhere. Whoever her campaign manager was, has no clue how to win a election.
Three Million Dollars spent to make her look like a media bully. If anything it made people start feeling sorry for little picked on Dookie.
She just could not seem to get out of her own way and let people decide on what they already knew.
I think she would have saved a lot of money, and would be starting a new job December 9th. If her approach would have been more positive.
I kinda thought the same thing about the negative ads and Bartlett being picked on. Then, sore loser Christensen piled on towards the end. But what about the allegations that some one was "tailing" Bartlett . None of this really matters to me because I do not live in Tulsa.
Someone get Hoss a pacifier.

And it wasn't just that.  Daily calls I was getting from her campaign after I explicitly told them to stop were irritating in the last week.  What was more irritating was that the numbers would show up from different locales on my CID (Bartlesville, Tahlequah..and yesterday afternoon...yes, yesterday, I got one from McAlester).

She was too aggressive and too negative.  Not negative enough for me to not vote, but in this instance, it almost felt like voting the lesser of two evils.  You know, kinda like a national election.

We got 3 back to back yesterday evening from McAlester.

Stick with "winner" then. It's easier to say.   :o

I 100% agree, she came off as a bully.  There are still people who are put off by strongly driven women.  She came off as just plain mean at times and I suspect "tailgate" didn't help her either.  People started to question why she was being so aggressive and spending so much for a job she wasn't going to accept a paycheck for.

All she needed to do was point to specific things Tulsa now enjoys due to either her accomplishments while in office or plans put into motion which were completed after she left office and simply rebut any claims by the Bartlet (sic) campaign which were inaccurate.  I'm truly disappointed to not have her vision going forward.  Dewey is a dullard.

Yeah I know.  I rarely mail letters, and I rarely ever write checks anymore.

Have a land line specifically because E911 needs it to be 100 percent accurate.  Cell phones can't do it.  If something were to happen with Mom when I was was away and she couldn't speak, the peace of mind a land line gives me for them getting to her promptly is worth the extra money

I am friends with Sooner Pollster Bill Shapard Jr. and sometimes he is accurate. But he is sometimes stunningly wrong. It must be the nature of pollsters.

Last November, he and the Tulsa World said that Vision2 would pass with 58% for, 31% against and 11% undecided. The final vote was 56% against, and 44% for.

56% against and he said 31% against.

He missed it by that much.

Looks like he pretty much nailed this one.

Is it too late to change my prediction?

This is still a prediction thread.

I think some are overstating the headwind effect against Taylor of her being the "Democrat" in the race.  While at a disadvantage in voter registration, Democrats have won more Tulsa mayoral races over the past 30 years than Republicans.  Taylor won as a Democrat only eight years ago.

Taylor's best chance at winning this race was to win outright last summer when it was a three-way race.  Once she failed to win it then, it was always going to be difficult for her to pull it off and she has been trailing in the polls since late summer.

Here is my take on why Taylor lost:

She had a record.  Unlike her defeat of LaFortune, Taylor had a record that could be and was used against her.   Second, and related, her message did not match her record.  "Back to Basics" did not make much sense when you look at what she did when she was mayor.  She bought a new City Hall and built Oneok Field.  Like those decisions are not, they are not city "basics" in most people's mind.  She did not explain why she would be different this time.

Third, for all the money she spent ($3.3 million as of several weeks ago), she never presented a clear message in her ads of what she wanted to do.  Putting the city budget on-line is not an energizing message for voters.  Having a plan on your website it fine, but her media message needed a concise summary of the highlights of her plan.  After an 8 month campaign, I still don't have a grasp of why she wanted to be mayor or what she was going to do - other than put the budget on line.

Fourth, I think the message she quit on Tulsa resonated with a lot of voters.  Given the timing of her announcement she was running and then that she was not running relative to the status of the economy and recession in 2009, it was not much of a leap for many voters to conclude that she quit last time in the face of adversity.  In politics, being perceived a quitter is very difficult to overcome.
